were you overhealed because that stops you from dying, and landing on the scoot takes away the fall damage correct (which will kill you even if you are overhealed w/ medical intervention afterwords)?

Yeah I actually tried this last night on another server. The Gunboats keep you from dying from the taunt. I don't know if this is intentional or not, but it's amusing.
