getting killed once by a pub means you lose 50 points and you have to kill 10 more to get those back, so unless you dont die you're going to lose points and that is annoying

Yeah, "Pubs" = "Pubbies" = Public server players. The controversy regarding stats is that when a kill occurs in TF2, the killer steals an amount of points proportional to the total point difference between him or her and the victim. Thus, if a regular player with maybe 30000+ points gets killed by someone who connects to our server to the first time, he or she may see a point loss that can be very difficult to overcome. The big problem was that points weren't really reflective of overall skill, just time spent on the server.

Of course, I thought the stats algorithms have been changed since then...

Both have occurred actually, modifications include bumping "support" points for classes like Medic & Engineer (ie Teleports, healing, assists, ubercharges). The second change was to nerf the number of points you lose by being killed. Of course another thing to "fix" this would be to reset the points every few months, because the loss still isn't capped, but its smaller than in the past.

And yes, people who play more will obviously get more points, but for the most part people seem to have settled back into the same ranks they had before the reset  :p

it's just frustrating, i mean i went 5 to 1 as heavy yesterday (got something like 60 kills) and got around 500 points, but later had a kd of 1.5 as solly and lost like 50

also i think they fucked with direct hit, i can actually use it now
