Actually you used to be able to, there was an 'equip' command in console so you could script it out and bind it to something like the keys on your num pad. But they took the equip command out of the game in Feb. 2009 :\

If I recall correctly some people wrote plugins to lock people out of certain items using that command, like hook into soucemod that if it saw you use 'equip tf_sandman' it would force you to use 'equip tf_bat'

That's a changer script for the medic, knock yourself out if you want to try it, if it still works you could alter it for hats

My other rage crafts were amazingly successful though. Crafted a spy hat, recrafted that to get the scout's bonk helmet. Crafted a sniper hat, recrafted to get the pyro's glove.

My karmic levels were at a low that day... I wonder if I inadvertently wrecked someone's day without noticing and this way the universe's way of punishing me. WHAT DID I DO TO DESERVE THAT! :'(

you can still block specific items even after they removed equip. i think they removed it because there were other exploits related to the equip command..

there was a interview where robin walker said they basically just checked your achievements and if you had the right ones, you could use the corresponding equip commands. when they added an actual inventory it just checked your backpack, and equip got deprecated

crafted an ambassador with a wrangler, natascha and chocolate bar since i havent found an ambassador since i unlocked it. 2 minutes later i get a natascha and wrangler

I crafted my Football helmet and Bonk Helm to get a Noble Assessment of hats. Quite a decent trade, especially considering that the football helmet dropped again for me like 3 hours later.
