Now..anyone want to give me a runddown of what every goddamn item is worth? It would be very fucking useful to me. I hate being a jackass, but when people talk to me like I'm a goddamn moron I have no clue how to react.

Vintage Weapon = at least a scrap, maybe a polycount weapon
Paint = anywhere from 2 scrap to 2 reclaimed, depending on the color. White and Black are more exclusive than the rest
Tags = 1 to 2 reclaimed
Poly Weapon = ~1 reclaimed, but can go for more or less depending on supply and demand
Crates = sort of a wild card... 1 scrap is a base price, but it can jump if someone is in a key-buying mode

Hats:
Poly Hats = 1-3 other hats, depending on the person and the quality of the hats traded
Bill's Hat, Max's Head, Earbuds, and other sought after promotional hats will usually only be traded for multiple hats. People really, really want the exclusivity.
Vintage hats are generally worth more than non-vintage hats due to exclusivity, but exactly how much more is a thing of personal preference.
Crate hats, especially the Old Guadalajara and Napper's Respite are less valuable than most other hats because they are common. Some hats, such as the hatless ones, also fall into this category. You might get lucky trading one away, but most people aren't looking for them.
Shit hats: Alien Swarm hat, Ellis's Cap, Ghastly Gibbus. Not worth much more than a scrap. Make someone happier by giving them one of these for free.

Metal:
Metal is the big currency since trading came out. If you have metal, you can trade for pretty much anything.
Refined metal: used for trading for bulk items, a key, multiple paints or tags, or hats. People will trade a hat for anything from 1-3 refined depending on how much metal they want and what hat they are trading off.
Reclaimed metal: Paint, tag, and polycount weapon territory.
Scrap: ???

Those are the rough guidelines I follow, but they vary quite a bit depending on supply and demand.

yeah i traded my bill's hat away almost right after trading came out for pretty much nothing compared to what they go for now :'(. my reasoning: it's a shitty hat that's been around forever. but for some reason people really want it.

My old one was 2210, new one is 7278.  The guy I traded said he wanted a medal from another guy, since that one's number is his dead sister's birthday, but the other guy would only trade it for my medal since mine was his birthday, or something.  The levels don't matter to me, I still have a medal, and got some hats out of the deal.

If you really want one, you had better be willing to dish out a couple of hats or piles of metal or both... Most people who have one don't want to trade it away, and those who do often have ridiculous asking prices in the hopes that some idiot will bite.

However, you might get lucky if you're patient.

Have bombing run and vintage hotrod for trading. looking for (preferably) 2-3 vintage hats for the hotrod, unless it's gone down in value since last time I've checked and I've wasted the entire evening trying to trade it off, and 2 refined or so for the bombing run unless that's deflated in value as well and I've wasted my metal on a crap hat. God I'm terrible at hustlin'.

Someone wants my hound dog and offers a hat, 2 refined, and some paint for it. I say no thanks since mine is vintage.

He leaves, and someone offers a nv. hound dog for 2 refined. I jump on the offer.

I add the guy who traded me first to my friend list, he accepts, and all of a sudden I get the same offer as he gave me before.

It's up to you. If you really don't care that much, you could sell it for cash and then spend that cash on more keys. Either trade those keys for a refined each or a hat, or just keep unboxing.
