You know, as much as you complain about people coming only for minecraft and someone actually wants to play TF2 here you think you would be a little more welcoming. I was more or less wondering how to connect to the servers and stuff, but whateverrr.

ok real tip: play every class a bit, pick one you like and try to stick to it. soldier, pyro, and medic are pretty easy to pick up, and some of the skills you acquire through play are useful to other classes

i think there's a server info thread stickied, which has the IPs. open console and type in "connect ipaddresshere" (without the """).

red has a custom rotation, whereas blue is default maps, which is strange considering some of the more silly customs are on blue. other than that, not much difference. we usually play all modes on red/blue except for plr cuz plr sucks.

hats are a silly cosmetic thing that people go nuts over (see: didzo)

Red runs a lot of custom maps, blue runs stock maps only. Since you'll be equally lost playing for the first time, Red is the more populous server, in steam's server browser next time you see people on one just double click to join.

I'd also recommend trying out each class, and don't change when one gets frustrating, try one for at least a full play sessions (~30min) before moving to a new one. A fair warning at least is that Red has a lot of veterans playing, don't be afraid to ask questions, but don't get angry or frustrated if you die, repeatedly, without getting any kills

your game should automatically download them for you though

almost every custom is bad to mediocre at best though, but there are a few decent ones. even the custom maps they made standard are generally ok at best

Yes, when the server changes you might need to wait a few minutes based on your internet connection, but once you have it you wont need to wait for that map again.

I thought every ctf was 2_fort.

Either way all of the things people said are good, just dont get discouraged about hats or anything. At a certain point it will feel like endgame grind if you only worry about those.

Just play on our servers and through playing/asking questions you should get the basics down real fast. Also the guides are nice but slightly out of date there are a lot of new items.
