Playing TF2 having fun, one slight steam update later yesterday and I can't get past the welcome screen for the freezing and using join game freezes me at the servers welcome! info! click continue and ignore all this! page.

I uninstalled reinstalled, removed my performance cfg put it back, remembered the good times, disabled multicore rendering, created a file it said it couldn't remove called textwindow_temp.html, made it read only. cried played the beta.

played it all night.

Tonight. still can't fix TF2 played the beta, randomly not accessing loadout, then minutes later, unable to access steam vac servers, and getting booted to the menu, to try again and lay for a while before not accessing loadout servers............ then the vac servers.......... and trying again.

HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Uninstall tf2, then delete the tf2 folder that i think would still be there after uninstalling.

I love you, why wouldn't TF2 allow me to do a fresh uninstall without a manual delete :\

Now I am getting the beta issues.

No secure blablabla failconnect.

Ironically I'm having this problem now. I freeze up at the menu when the saxxy animations play. Tried restarting, toggling SLI, and verifying game cache. Damn it valve!

Total absolute reinstall of all steam and TF2.

Also, while karths solution is a promising one, its not very pragmatic or possible in a lot of cases.

If you have an unsecure tf2 problem, restart steam.

Full reinstall, still freezes. Must have been that nVidia update.

Goodbye TF2 Sad. At least until I find a solution.

What the fuck! Nothing is fixing this.

Tried:
Verifying cache integrity
Full reinstall
Toggling SLI
Rolling back to an older video driver

Still freezing about 5 seconds in every time. Anyone have other ideas?

When you did a full reinstall, did you wind up with a completely vanilla installation of TF2?

Certainly seemed that way. After the uninstall, I went into my steamapps folder and deleted as much shit as I was allowed to (apparently the replay folder is perpetually in use by a mysterious program). Then redownloaded TF2 which took an hour or two. Started it up and saw that the default launch screen was back (I previously used frankenHUD, utilizing a custom "beta" launch screen).

Also does anyone remember the not too long ago bug where If you had an AMD CPU TF2 would crash?

Probably another bug of this sort, start comparing hardware.
