FNF 7/29: Go Back to Driving Your Warthog

Are you tired of free maps, updates, and community-ran servers?  Do you wish you could be teabagged by 11 year olds, and be called mutually incompatible racial epithats by frat boys?  Have you been deprived of that warm fuzzy feeling you get when xXxMasterSplieff420xXx TK's your entire squad with a plasma grenade?

Well guess what, YOU'RE IN LUCK NERD!  Because this Friday we're going back to the root of all first-person shooters, HALO, the best and first FPS ever made.  We'll be doing something special and completely un-heard of in the land of FNF: changing our names to fake XBOX Live gamertags, and playing some maps.

First off is cp_flood.  The Flood are arguably the most famous enemies ever encountered in a video game, with their signature attack style (run at player while firing weapon), riveting origin story (bioweapon gone awry), and mode of replication (zombies).  It is no surprise that the Flood figure prominently in the HALO multiplayer experience, HALO advertising, and fan appreciation like cosplaying as the Flood.

Next up is ctf_convoy_v2.  Capture the Flag was my favorite game mode in HALO (first/best FPS ever fyi), because it presented such a myriad of strategic choices.  Do I sit in a corner and camp our flag with the shotgun, or spawn camp with the sniper rifle, or make solo suicide runs on the enemy flag every thirty seconds?  The choice is yours, so get going!  Whoops, you're too slow!  The worst player on your team took the shotgun AND the sniper rifle, looks like your job will be getting grenaded to death for the next 15 minutes.

Third map is koth_harvest, PISTOLS+SHOTGUNS ONLY, NO MELEE WEAPONS, NO MEDICS, NO BUILDINGS, FINAL DESTINATION.  If you ever had the good fortune of watching a pro HALO match (pros only play the first and best FPS ever), you'll know that the pistol is the only weapon actually used in HALO.  Which is why sidearms that can 3-shot an enemy across even the largest maps have now become a staple of all games that followed HALO (aka all games in existence).  Also, shotguns.

saxxy note: this will only be for a short while, cuz its gonna be so terribad.

Last map is plr_panic.  The only shortcoming of HALO (firstbestFPS) is the lack of wub wub.  Bonus points to anyone who switches their pandora/lastfm/grooveshark to dubstep only for this map, double bonus points if we can hear it when you use your mic.  Triple bonus points if you're using headphones.

xbox live guests. Obviously I aim better with a mouse but I think games like halo and gears are just more fun on controllers. I play a whole lot on my computer but console games are fun.

I've always wanted to somehow get a keyboard and mouse to work on a console and be the only one anywhere that could actually do anything like aim and move.

Gears is definitely better with a controller, but I really enjoyed Halo 1 on PC.
