I really have had enough of it. Yesterday, I hopped in to get a couple of games going in the AM before my day started, and instead of actually playing TF2, I was busy an entire round of Gravelpit asking some of you to stop with your griefing, your mic-spam, etc etc etc. I'm sick of it, so this is your fair warning. I will start handing out 30 minute bans after giving you 1 warning to stop. That's all you'll get from me: a single warning, and then a ban. I will be particularly harsh when I'm on #2, as it is ultimately up to me to decide what is and is not allowed there.

I don't care if you think a certain map is not fun; I don't care if you liked that one guy's mic-spam. The chalkboard has rules, I suggest you go back and read them. In particular:

Quote:* No Mic Spam - defined as annoying looping sounds, loud bad music, or continuing after asked to stop
* No asshattery or drama causing
* Homophobic/Racist/Hate sprays or language is not tolerated
* If you would like a reserved slot please check our forums
* Any violators can be kicked/banned

Violators can expect a swift ban

It's not just annoying for me to have to deal with your shenanigans; yesterday a full server lost plenty of good players (lots of TF2F guys for example) because some of you don't even have the maturity to play a game. Not only is it disappointing to see good players leave; it's also embarrassing for me as an admin when people avoid the server because of the behavior of some of our regulars.

Smite/flame me if you like, but my vision of the servers was to be a place where people could hang out, play some casual games of TF2, and have some idle chatter going during the slow games. I do NOT want people on there acting like /b/tards. Furthermore, DO NOT argue with an admin through in-game chat if they've muted/kicked someone for general asshattery. If you want to argue, please at least do it through steam-messages.

edit:

This includes trapping people with your teleporters on Gravelpit. Just because you saw Spore do it doesn't make it cool or right. In fact, I will not even warn you if you're trapping your teammates. You will just get the boot. Same goes for being a civilian/crabspy. Being completely useless to your team is griefing.

Totally agreed here, I allow a little mic spam but I do expect that if people ask you to stop it, you stop. Not everyone appreciates the mic spam and it can really disrupt a game for some people...

A good rule of thumb is that: the more busy a server is, the less shenanigans will be appreciated... Besides, hearing the same old samples all the time is a lot less fun than say having a funny conversation while playing. AllTalk is on for talking not for annoyance...

Also: screaming a lot or generally making weird sounds all the time is just as annoying...

Yeah. I'm with fuckduck and ain.  The servers can be a bit overwhelming at times.

I agree as well.  But also there are these sound files I've heard played that have like screaming and stuff on them.  They are clearly meant to annoy and no other reason.  If I hear them on any server I will ban immediately, no warning.  People should have the common sense to know that that is unacceptable.

Just because you are a member here, does not give you the right to break the rules

Same goes for being a civilian. Being completely useless to your team is griefing.

I was in the same position, Duck. The guy you muted on Gravelpit, I had muted on the previous map for the same reason. There were a couple of shouts to STFU for spamming the same sample ad nauseum. After I muted him, some players started complaining that it was funny and if it bothered people that much, they should mute him individually. Puts the admin in a bit of an awkward position  :-\

Also, is that an official stance on civilians? I ask because they piss me off no end but I've never done anything about it as I wasn't sure it was my place.

I honestly don't give a shit if people think its funny or not, if they want to hear mic spam, go to a *chan server. The mic is for talking and the occasional bit of smack talk and/or rage.

Not for playing sounds and/or music, Ill be lenient on some matters, like if its a really short clip and you do it maybe once, but other than that its a mute. Argue about it and Ill ask you to use the door if you don't like it, keep it up and Ill show you the door.

If someone wants to get a database up, Mr. Griefing himself wrote a plugin to perminantly mute mic spammers so you can't leave and come back to undo it - http://forums.alliedmods.net/showthread.php?p=630159

Mm. I'll admit I'm a little lenient on the mic-spam, simply by way of not caring, but when there's something annoying I am the the first to know. You'll realize this because I've shown up at your house with a vise and a soldering iron.

You have been warned.

On #2, I would say yes to warning then kicking civs. It was funny way back when, it's not anymore, it just pisses people off, cut it out. Same for useless crabspies. I will leave it to Ain and Caff/Kor to decide what's what for #1 and #3.

I know what you mean about being put in an awkward position as some want the mic-spam and some don't. The way I look at it: we're trying to expand the community, and while humoring a small group of spammers might be what some of the regulars want, it does not really serve to expand our community. Mic-spammers and griefers can already get their fill at 2Fort2Furious/4Chan. We don't need it here too. Furthermore, showing leniency because a regular asked for it during pub-time demonstrates a level of seniority/elitism, something EVERY server owner is very much against. Whether you agree with "no seniority/elitism" or not, it's still a good justification for muting/kicking spammers.

I'm semi lenient on these matters, the most important thing for me is too keep a mature and fun server... I don't like people talking down to people and I'll say that. The same goes for micspam... When you're with all friends and in a weird mood, some micspam can be a lot of fun but when you're with a lot of pubs... just don't.

The same goes with people just shouting at others for no good reason. (And no, winning isn't a good reason to talk down to people although some gloating is fine)

The reason brbu servers are fun is because we try to keep a mature atmosphere without getting too serious, this is what we should strife to maintain... Getting too serious and too strict would kill the atmosphere but getting too lenient would do the same.... It's a fine line we walk gentlemen.

On the matter of civilians... meh, they're annoying but not a bannable offence... Just slap them a few times and warn them and kick them if they won't stop.

I've got nothing against crab spies and civilian heavies, as long as they aren't the sole reason we're losing.

A fine line indeed and in my opinion, that line is the best one I've ever seen. Lax but controlled.

Well, I agree with you mostly, but "expanding the community" is a risky sentiment. If you "expand" by becoming matte, then you might lose what made you "the community" in the first place.

To that end, I'll allow a little mic-spam: rickrolls, scatman, and the like. I sometimes even request it. But we're mostly good people in BRBU and the people that would want to come will still come, despite or even because of Mr. Astley's luscious baritone.

I agree with peaches to a point I made earlier... the 2 worst things that brbu could ever become is:

A. Too serious: This wouldn't make playing too much fun for most of our community as some of the most fun games where games where we where joking and laughing...

B. Too lenient: We're not a *chan community and we don't want to be like that. Another charm of our community is that we're not kids. (and I don't mean age wise)

So like I said in a previous post... It's a fine line we walk...

The way I will handle it is if you are playing something and I'm even slightly annoyed I will put up a vote.  If it gets at least 30-40% positive (depending on my mood or the server atmosphere) I will mute you if you play it again.

Also if anyone else puts up a vote I will abide by the results.
