Well, I agree with you mostly, but "expanding the community" is a risky sentiment. If you "expand" by becoming matte, then you might lose what made you "the community" in the first place.

To that end, I'll allow a little mic-spam: rickrolls, scatman, and the like. I sometimes even request it. But we're mostly good people in BRBU and the people that would want to patronize us will still come, despite or even because of Mr. Astley's luscious baritone.

Basically, my rules of thumb for muting are: a) continuing after any player(s) have vocalised their displeasure at the spammage, or b) if there is a noticable exodus of players that can assumedly be as a result of the spammage.

As Peaches said, it's nice to have a bit of personality.

Fucking THANK YOU. I am so tired of people being dimwits when I'm trying to get a good solid game going in the late night block. Why does it bring out all the people who don't know how to use a mp3 player, and decide that the only way to hear their music is to make ME hear their music? More talking, less shit. <3

The way I will handle it is if you are playing something and I'm even slightly annoyed I will put up a vote.  If it gets at least 30-40% positive (depending on my mood or the server atmosphere) I will mute you if you play it again.

Also if anyone else puts up a vote I will abide by the results.

I honestly don't trust people to vote, sometimes, especially late at night. I'm tired and just want to play without any bullshit.

Fun fact, did you know that Team Roomba polices their servers fairly harshly. When they want to go grief people they do it on other people's servers. Due to those videos they attracted a lot of idiots and they do their best to keep BS to a minimum. There are other servers like Idort's Re/v/enge that are all Mic Spam and if you want to play DJ, go do it there. The majority of people the server attracts are more mature because we police stupid shit like this and don't let it happen. I'd like it to continue this way.

You want to play a short sound bite here or there, provided its FUNNY and not obnoxious fine, but full songs and long talking clips I will mute you without warning, no ifs ands or buts.

I think the point is to separate the shenanigans between pub time and us time and know when people want to mess around and when they want to play.  A good rule to go by is if the server is <75% full or its a community non-cereal event than go for it.  Or you could just ask.

Learn to read people. Nobody has said that all mic-spam is getting cut off. We're just talking about reinforcing the RULES as they are written in the MOTD.

Nowhere does that say an occasional sound byte is bannable. Nowhere. To give an example: The guy from yesterday was playing the same shitty sound byte with annoying frequency. I do not want to hear a scratchy-record clip of some 12-year-old boy whose balls haven't dropped screaming "OH YEA!" every 15 seconds.

He was asked to stop several times, then Budr muted him. Riosan, you kept whining to have him unmuted. DON'T DO THAT. If someone has been asked to stop mic-spamming - even if not from a regular during pub-play - the rules are that they must stop.

In my mind, very little has changed. We get more mic-spam than we used to (a direct result of the servers being increasingly populated), so the admins are having to be a bit more active than they once were. And while the civilian/crabspy problem, as well as the teleporter trapping things never used to be an issue, some of you decided to tell everyone and their grandma how to do it, and now I see this in every single game. Like I said before, it's funny on occasion, but it should NOT be happening as frequently as it's been getting. If your team of 12 has 6 civilians/crabspies, ur doin it wrong.

Back in the golden days, before I started my upgrade, when I played TF2 I was apparently the hardass who would shit on certain regular's mic-spamming fun.

Just letting you know that I'm going to gladly continue this when/if I get back. I have very little tolerance for music/sound-bite spam during actual play, and very limited tolerance for general mic and text griefing. This is from anybody, regardless of how long/much you've been playing. You have been warned.

Also, please DO NOT argue with an admin's decision. If they muted/kicked/banned someone, they're probably not happy about it. Arguing them or challenging their decision won't help anything, especially if you do it in game. Send them a pm through steam or the forums, or speak to another admin. I will not fault an admin for throwing out a mute/kick/ban or just ignore someone who continues to argue against a decision.
