Rather than continually quoting myself, I'm just gonna delete these posts as I make progress.
So far, I have a Windows Server (not ideal, I'll eventually make it work with linux so that remote administration and upkeep is easier) set up that can host any of the following games: Half-Life 1 Mods ============ Natural Selection Science and Industry Action Half Life Orange Box and Half-Life 2 Mods ======================== TF2 HL2 Deathmatch Synergy (not tested) Zombie Panic Source (v1.25) PVKII (working on it) Dystopia (working on it) DIPRIP (working on it) I'll take suggestions on what else people would like to try out. On a side note, the server files for ZPS I found were for a newer version, so you'll have to re-download it (it's a really big download at ~800MB; I know it sucks, I'm sorry). However, I'll go ahead and host the files, along with installs and map packs for the other games listed above. I can also toss the Destructoid TF2 Map Packs up if it's more convenient than fpsbanana. Unfortunately, since I'm pretty clueless about all this, about all I've figured out is how to set up dedicated servers and host games. I don't know how to change maps or anything like that. I know how to set a password once the server is on, but I haven't figured out how to set it with config files. Also, if any of you ARE really good with this kind of thing, I can set you up with admin to futz with the maps, etc (is it just the RCON password for admins?) The install files for all of these games will be hosted here. The server will be captainmorgan.mit.edu, also known as 18.243.2.105 (so you can eventually add it, or just keep joining after someone else is in it). If any install files for the above games are missing or not working, let me know here. It's late, and I'm tired, so I may very well have missed some stuff in the process. EDIT: Synergy will take some more work and testing before I can get it to work; don't expect it tomorrow, next week is probably good though. EDIT: Alright, I think I've pretty much got this down pat, so I could probably get any given mod up and running on a dedicated server within 30 minutes time (if I'm awake) Ripped like paper raped with ease hey scrub nerd pyros suck on these

If the files are too large I would recommend compressing them for faster download. Something like 7-zip would do the job just fine and its free http://www.7-zip.org/

Most of these I installed because they were mentioned, but there's probably not enough interest in most to warrant the download. I guess just look out for what's going on for Wednesday and Thursday. OK so I finally found out about hooking up both cable modems. Apparently I'd have to subscribe to another internet service. Currently I get 7 mbps, with actual speed posted above. They told me that if I added the extra service they wouldn't share bandwidths and I'd get another 7. It's $41.99 for the extra service though .
So I'm putting it in the back of my mind for a possibility if I wanna set up some temporary mod servers for us, I was trying to find parts of my service I don't use but I was only able to get $11.99 off - so I'd still have to be able to afford $30 extra a month. That isn't right now but it could be soon (1st quarter was awful for my business but it's picking up dramatically). But duck already has a good server setup for the moment anyways so it is completely unnecessary for the time being. I am going to try and see what the cheapest way to get my desktop on the wireless network is though. Any suggestions? Even when I get my lappy back my wife is interested in some Titan Quest. She's freaking crazy for hack and slash RPG's yet she's never played Diablo, can you believe it? Her only experience is on consoles :o. |

[/quote] If it ran alright with Vandam running and hosting ZPS for example, how necessary is it? It IS really nice to have access to a dedicated server, but if it doesn't have to be run 24/7, I imagine there should be some sort of way we could just bum a server off of whoever doesn't actually want to play (ok, sounds a lot less likely after I said it). On a side note, as of right now, there's a good chance I will be here in some fashion later than my graduation date. Mrs. Duck wants to get an apartment until she finishes out her bachelor's and possibly master's (just the one extra year), so I may be able to keep this up until internet speeds and costs in America rival those in Japan (I wish....) Though that all depends on me finding a job to work in the area once I graduate. And I don't know if I've ever told any of you, but I'm super lazy. OK sounds like it is completely unnecessary. I guess I can put that money towards something else in the future, like getting the ship. Or kicking in a few bucks to the server.
