Gentlemen,
It's time to shape the world in our own image on saturday. We'll start at 02:00 CEST (that's GMT-2) and I'll be hosting a pitboss server (to cut down on lag/connections problems) with the Beyond the Sword expansion, if you don't have the expansions, get them by any means as I have it that less than legal versions will be able to connect as well. Also, install Bhruic's patch, this solves a lot bugs which are still in BTS. We'll use hamachi to bypass any annoying firewalls/routers: Quote:1: download and install Hamachi. We'll choose an appropriate map type/size for the amount of people who will join. The more people who join the better because it will become more epic with a lot of people. Because we'll be using pitboss we don't have to finish the game that night if it becomes very epic. I still want to test the connectivity before we start, preferrably with a pirated version. Any wishes/suggestions? I propose using vent for voice comms as civ's voice comms suck... Signature temporarily out of order until I get off my lazy ass to fix it.

I shall be there. I suggest that we run the Next War mod. It's basically the normal game, but it extends the tech tree into the future. Giant wars of clones, mechs, and superweapons are awesome.

*I suggest no mods. Just civ4bts, patched with Bhuric's patch.
*I recommend a multi-continent map (not pangaea). *A smaller map with low sea level often yields almost as much land as is on the next size map with regular sea levels -- but with less naval travel time necessary. *"Advanced Start" begins the game with a little bit of terrain around your starting location revealed (5-tile radius, not much even on a duel sized map) and you can buy starting things with points. If we do an advanced start of just 100 points, that's enough only to place your starting city and nothing else. This will offset the problem of very bad starting locations. *Barbarians? I'd like normal (not none, not raging). *Difficulty level to play? Noble is the one with no bonuses/penalties. *Any AIs to be added? Un-modded civ supports up to 18 nations. AI nations might help those with diplomacy skill, as well as allow for some more wild cards and unit XP farming. *Important decision: Will leaders be locked to their normal civ, or will the game be unlocked? |

I was about to link tho Bhuric's patch. I forgot to add that. And I agree, mods are for later editions... let's first play normally.
I'm opting for locked leaders. AI's... depends on how many people join and diplomacy is more fun with real people... No advanced start imho, but we'll do a few turns of enforced peace. Normal barbs for XP farming... Noble difficulty seems fine. Signature temporarily out of order until I get off my lazy ass to fix it. |

I should get in on this. I have Civ IV lying around, but never actually played it (or any Civ since II years ago)...
You should do Heroes of Might and Magic III though sometime, I'm awesome at that XD. (09-11-2008, 05:11 PM)Dave link Wrote:i would totaly ride that gay ass dragon thing. |

No mods.
Locked leaders. AIs...hmm. Probably depend on how many people would play. I think the advanced start would be a good idea. I don't like barbarians. I get settler difficulty; everyone else gets deity, k? Fine, noble. |

Your post says CEST is GMT-2. Googling says it's GMT+2. Big difference!

I would suggest Civ4toid as the Hamachi network to use. It was created with (who would've guessed?) Civ4 games over Hamachi in mind. It is nowhere near being full.
DO NOT JOIN NETWORKS YOU DON'T PLAN ON USING! Lastly, if it does end up filling up as well, you only need be in the same Hamachi network as the host asfaik (though someone said you only have to be in the same network as someone playing the game). Try finding a network that works. Civ4toid pass: alsococks iirc Ripped like paper raped with ease hey scrub nerd pyros suck on these |

Just a suggestion, Ain:
In the future, simply post the starting time in terms of GMT. (ie. "We're starting at 24:00GMT") This will help everyone to know exactly when to show up. Also, CEST is GMT+2, as was previously pointed out. That means if you want to start at 18:00CEST, you should announce we're starting at 16:00GMT. Hopefully we can get this working next week. |
