I still have (US) Final Fantasy 2 & 3 carts somewhere.

I want those so bad D:

Hate you

I do have earthbound though, played it the other day, battery say it still good

I'm so paranoid about that I think of selling off my (rather decent) cart collection a lot these days.  It's either that or I need to look into how you replace the batteries.  I haven't checked my max level Chrono Trigger save in a year or two, and I'm terrified to see if it's still there.

The batteries on those games are made to last 20 years minimum, I remember I had a discussion with a friend of mine who did work for GE Medical, the batteries in the equipment to keep the RAM alive last something like 60 - 75 years, and thats not a special battery, just a standard run of the mill watch type battery.

Heres a guide to changing batteries

There isn't much else you can do, but it does remind me of that one episode of Seinfeld where George tries to save his high score on the frogger machine at the pizza parlor only to accidentally unplug it in the end.

20 years, really?  The only faulty battery I know I have right now is for Ken Griffey Present MLB (great game, save not important).

Even so, I could probably get some decent money from it, and I can run SNES emulators on like, everything else that plays games I own practically.

My Kirby Super Star battery seems to go out occasionally then come back on. I can save and then a week later it might be gone. During the summer I may have to have a battery changing day.

Don't call me a criminal.  By supporting (and making) the statement that rom use is illegal; you are supporting the idea that IP owners maintain ownership after original sell and contributing in diminishing the rights of consumers.  I had a very nice TLDR post typed up, with citations (i've written papers on the subject), but I don't want to be a dick, especially when the gist was "don't be an idiot and believe everything you hear from corporations about copyright law."  I understand you want to err on the side of caution, but this was well away from the line.

No thats not what i meant at all.
I don't give a fuck about copyright. I've probably pirated more $ value than you.

its just a rule of the forum that we're not supposed to link that stuff Smile

Just a safety thing for Scotty doing webhosting, we're all smart enough to look for things ourself. When it comes to this stuff, its better just to stick on the safe side of the tracks than go into a legal gray area (which may vary depending on the country)

Erm, I think you meant to say that the frogger machine was destroyed when it was run over by a semi. Wink

Sure, it's almost void of any critical/artistic merit, but it sure is a fine platformer:
