As I understand he jumped from one plane during testing a personnel transfer system that involved snagging a drag line on the receiving plane and being reeled in.  He then filled in as Navigator for the 2nd plane.  As it applies to The Matter at Hand, I would have to say for 1,2&3 would be THIS.
