Internet question, two actually

For an extra 8-10$ a month I can go from 7 mbps to 12 mbps and I was wondering if this seems worth it.

Also I've been thinking about getting a new wireless router to replace my wrt54g, and if I do get one can I set it up as a bridge for my mom to hook up a wired computer to it?  Cuz that could solve a problem of getting an old imac online for my little sister.

I'm actually trying to set up my old WRT54G router as a bridge for my 360, and all I've managed to accomplish so far seems to be bricking it.  So, my advice, make sure you've got a backup plan :p

Do USB wireless adapters not work on iMacs?  I mean really I don't know, coz' those things don't cost much these days anyway.

Oh and as for the mbps, unless you are downloading from sources that max out yout speed a lot, then no, it doesn't matter. 7mbps is gonna max out around 1 MB a second download speed, and the only place I ever get that from is downloading games over Steam.  The only other way I could get that is too run a bunch of torrents or something.

LOL, do you and duck really want to have to walk me through managing a server and answering all my questions?  If so I'd be open to the idea.  That is if I end up being able to afford a budget build, Then I can just wire up my old desktop in the closet.  Would it be enough bandwidth that my use wouldn't slow the server or visa versa?

I don't support having another server just quite yet. I think it's useful to have just the 3, so that some folks seed #3 to help attract more euro regulars to ain's server.

I think you would have to learn about prioritizing/throttling bandwidth usage across a network (maybe it's settings in the router? idk, I don't usually have to worry cuz I have so many tubes 8)). Otherwise, when your wife is downloading teh pr0nz, your server's gonna feel it. Hell, when I'm uploading stuff to the server or copying files, it feels it. It doesn't make people happy, nor does it make a good impression on newbies.

So I guess the bottom line is unless there is a good use for the extra bandwidth not to bother.  I was thinking about upping it for streaming movies to my 360 but I think that's just the shitty modems they put in consoles slowing things down.
