I don't think it'll matter too much WHAT you play, so long as you play together at least some of the time; I know that makes me happier.

That does sound like a good idea, portal doesn't have much killing, would help develop skills in using the mouse and keyboard, and is fun. the puzzle aspect kinda does pull you in.
Now all i have to do is get a copy of portal, and lure her into my house and force her to sit in my computer chair. Her laptop cant run games i think, she hasn't let me get near it and figure out what it has yet.
though i could justify building a new computer and giving her my current one so we could "bond"

True true, though i find team-based tactical shooters to be very.. building.
relying on someone to cover your back helps build trust and such

To restate what i want to accomplish here, i guess i just want to get her interested in PC gaming, it doesn't have to be FPS games, i am a big fan of any game really. I just want to get her interested in something we can play together, or against each other. RTS games and FPS games are a "focus" of mine, that's why i stressed it.

Lights out is where you press a button, it switches the button's current state and the current states of the surrounding buttons.

Team Fortress 2 is rather simple.  Just put her on a pub server with incoming voice chat disabled.
