How safe is tinyxp?

I would like to use a tinyxp install on an older computer so I can share files with other ntfs computers. Is tinyxp actually safe? It seems like one of those "too good to be true deals". I have a disc of XP, would I be better off finding a copy of XPlite?

I remember surf (I think) saying he was gonna try it a while ago, but he didn't post any results.

I've used these types of OS builds before, was skeptical too, but I ran a couple of scans with AVG and spybot and nothing came up from a fresh install.

A friend of mine got the torrent of revision 9 from mininova and as soon as soon as he got finished the iso (not a fresh install, just the iso from the torrent on a computer running vista) caused avast to go off, because of a file named windows_.exe. Was the virus software mistaken or did he find a bad torrent?

Im not familiar with the program but from what I read it seems like a lot more work than just being able to get tiny xp or xplite working.

will I be able to get sp3? and is there any way to make it so my resolution isnt automatically set to 1024x768x32 @85Hz because my monitor would die at 85Hz

I'm pretty sure plat.2 has sp3. Also, I doubt it would automatically throw up 85 hz. I think Windows always picks the lowest possible refresh rate that your monitor supports on a fresh install.

If anyone has a link to platinum 2 can you not send it to me?  I have to wait till my wife finishes the summer term cuz she's got so much of her school crap on the vista install.

God Vista sucks on older computers.

Either way I have an older monitor that supports 85Hz, Im just gonna hook that up to be safe. Being able to see 60Hz must be annoying. I cant see it but after 10 mins or so I start to get headaches and usually figure it out.

Get a hold of Chooly, he knows his way around this kind of stuff.

It's REALLY easy. You can either use the live CD (toss the CD in the drive, place a floppy in the drive, or USB key and reboot.) or install onto a HD. It's BSD based and entirely managed via a web interface. No keyboard or monitor required.

Interface tutorial: http://www.freenas.org/contrib/sloan/freenas1.htm
