I happened to stumble across a great little application made by the guys behind Xfire which allows you to use applications such as web browsers, itunes and even homebrew apps while in a game. To boot it hasn't affected my FPS at all. You can download it and check it out at

I should give a heads up though to vista users like me that a driver update is still not available so it may be a bit buggy from time to time, but expect an update soon

I've been following this program for probably 4-5 months now, waiting for the damn beta, and they finally released it a couple of weeks ago with no Vista game-overlay. Such a let-down Sad
