Should I get a Nvidia 8800 GT, or GTS?

Also, does it matter what brand I get? (Since there's apparently no official 8800)

If you're getting a GTS, get the G92 (or 512MB as it's also referred to) version. The 320/640MB version is old old old and the GT outdoes it.

For manufacturer, EVGA is recommended, though I haven't had much trouble with XFX (one card I got was DoA, but I returned it without any trouble), and ASUS is a decent alternative as well.

A 9800GTX is like, the same price as a 8800GTS now >.>

9800GTX

8800GTS (mailin rebates take fooooorever)

8800GT's are on average $30-50 cheaper, and I <3 the Asus design for the 8800GT, coz' it's a pretty giant copper heatsink like my old BFG 6600GT.

This is word for word what I would have said.

"Google ""Display driver nvlddmkm stopped responding"" and you will see a whole lot of what my ""con"" for this product is. While eVGA is a great company to go with; unfortunately, they have no control over nVidia's drivers and how badly they seem to be written, especially for Windows Vista."

This comment scares me on getting an EVGA card.

the drivers come from nvidia, its not gonna really matter as far as that goes for the manufacturer.
evga is a good brand, and the 8800 series has been out for a while now, you not gonna have any problems with display drivers.

eVGA is a good brand, all of my video cards except the latest have been from them. Vista was the problem with that guy, not the card or drivers. Tongue

I'd go with the 8800GT, cheaper pricetag and you're honestly not going to see a visible difference in gameplay unless you're trying to find the difference just to pick at shit.

SLIing with a G80 (I think?) and G92 is impossible. You'd have better luck, yes, picking up another 640 for used.
