So Google has released their new browser Chrome which I'm posting from now...

I read a comic yesterday with a lot of technical details which made me want to try it out... It's the first browser that makes every tab a new process so that one tab can never kill the entire browser... It also puts plugins in different processes so that they can't hose the browser either. For the rest it has an interesting new Javascript virtual machine that promises to speed up javascript loads and will speed up javascript heavy pages (like google's own web apps). Further you can set seperate tabs to private so that nothing from those tabs will be saved while other tabs will act like normal... Also it has integrated google gears in it and a whole lot of other security, privacy and performance features.

I'm taking it for a spin right now and so far it feels very snappy... more so than firefox or IE but I haven't used it nearly enough to really say... I'll get back to this thread after a week to share my experiences...

Anyone else has an opinion on this?

I wanna try it, but I just got FF set up and I have to use IE for netflix watch now.  I'm afraid of making my life more complicated  :-\

Edit: I will wait for your final verdict in a week if it's better than FF I will make the switch.

Edit edit: OK I lied, there are a couple things FF 3 does I hate so I'm giving it a whirl for work stuff.

I don't like IE much myself and have been using firefox since it was still called phoenix... and the old mozilla suite before that. The thing which interests me about chrome is the "every tab is a process" architecture which aims to solve my biggest problem with browsers up to now... I always hated it when a shitty website makes my browser hang. I just killed some 'chrome' processes and the only thing it did was make one tab useless instead of the whole browser so it has impressed me already. Another thing that the multiprocess architecture does is make the browser work a lot better on modern multi-core processors.

So far.... it's DAMN fast... I do miss my extensions but I can't really say until I've run it for a week...

Damn it does the stuff I need it to do better and won't crash on all the shitty java stuff my county uses.  But without my RSS ticker and chatzilla......It's like choosing between children or cats  :-\

Chatzilla... Use mirc, xchat or irssi...

What rss ticker do you use btw?

There's a few extensions I can see myself missing but all seems pretty slick so far. Is it just me being silly or are the options really limited? I'm guessing it's an attempt to keep everything really simple but the options menu is shit, is there an extended dialogue somewhere I'm missing?

RSS Ticker, it grabs all unread articles in your feeds every 30 min and scrolls them on the bottom of your window.  Control click to get rid of them (mark as read) and regular click to open (open in new tab is not enabled by default for some reason).  I've become dependant on it.  But I think I'm going to drop chatzillar for irssi.

From what I've seen so far I am a big fan, I could switch from FF.  But there are two key things I'm missing that I need.

And RSS reader, and smart bookmarks.  OK smart bookmarks may not be the right name but in FF you can right click search bars and create a tag for them and then use that tag in the address bar.  So for in image search I'd type "i whatever" and it would do a google image search.  For wikipedia "w something interesting" etc.

Any way to get either of these in chrome?

I'm absolutely considering switching from firefox. This is absolutely incredibly fast, especially with web 2.0 apps like gmail, meebo, etc.
Everything about this browser is great. In case you didn't hear, it uses separate processes for each tab!!!

It's actually a lot better than I thought. It's missing a few things that'd I'd like, like rss feeds and other skins, but hopefully people release addons and skins for that. Anyways, I'm probably going to use this more than opera because of how fast and user friendly this thing is.

I can't click down on my scroll button, kind of frustrating.  Just noticed this as I was trying to scroll to the top of the page...
edit: two more things... One, sometimes the window is over top f everything and I can't access the hidden start menu at the bottom of the screen.

More importantly... Where do i download the plugins?!?!?

I miss my RSS feed, but i feel that one'll get added in the next week or so.  Otherwise it's pretty slick.

I'll check it out, but for the most part I'll stick with Firefox.

Yeah, I'm trying it out right now, and holy shit, I forgot how many ads there are on the Internet.

Anyway, I like the look of it, and it's definitely faster than Firefox, but with all my Firefox extensions that make browsing so much better (Adblock, All-In-One Gestures, Linkification, Dictionary Tooltip, Download Statusbar, NoScript, Gmail Notifier, and, at least once they get it running on FF3, Tab Mix Plus) I don't think it's worth switching right now.

Seems cool, but I doubt it'll replace Firefox for me until it gets extensions. Might download to try it out though!

I'm getting huge issues with it out of nowhere. It's unusable. It refuses to load web pages and throws errors constantly. If I reinstall it, it works once, and if I close it, doesn't work the next time. Seems like I'll have to wait a little bit longer.

Don't feel like switching from Firefox, as I don't have a reason to.

Does it support:

-Spell Check
-Auto-complete address by searching through your entire history with sippets of similar addresses
-Good search toolbar
-Shortcut/Favorites "toolbar"
-Good plug-ins/plugin support

Just wondering.  Also, not a fan of the look.
