Gmail with Chrome's "Create Application Shortcut" feature. Makes a standalone link on your desktop that'll jump right to your gmail account.

For free? I highly doubt it.
I've sent them using my cell phone as a modem before and windows fax thingy. It was local so it was a free call. |

if you have a fax modem in your computer you can print to fax in MSword, i know that.
