They should have followed Canada's TeleToon lead and show anime with subtitles and the original voice work. (Teletoon later flip-flopped to follow Toonami)
Dubs (and especially American-market edits) bastardize the shows and ruin the plot, character development and so on.

Otherwise I have no complaint with their lineup, rather that it was not aired in Canada.

To paraphrase a comment I read on Japanator about the topic which I think sums things up nicely. In the late '90's/early '00's a lot of people were still on dial-up, and streaming or downloading anime took forever. People who were kids during that time could really only turn to TV or rentals to be introduced to anime. That's where Toonami found its niche. Introducing really good, age-appropriate anime (even if it was edited a lot) to kids. These days, with broadband accessible to almost everyone, kids are introduced to anime through  the Internet by word of mouth (so to speak) and video streaming sites like YouTube and Veoh. Sadly, Toonami lost its niche and couldn't really keep up with the fan subbers.

Although purists might not have liked the editing Toonami did to the shows (not near as bad as 4kids or some of the other "kid" programming blocks around these days), looking back now I'm glad they did. The Internet has a lot of freedom and requires a lot of attention from parents. It's very easy for a kid to go from looking for latest releases of Naruto to finding something that is quite mature like Elfen Lied or even to hentai (i.e. the chans). At least Toonami was a controlled space, parents had an idea of what to expect from those shows.

Also, I enjoyed it when Toonami did that show with animation videos like Daft Punk and that one with the claymation dude selling his own soul to make magic happy goggles.
What the fuck Toonami played music videos by Kenna?

Except it isn't. AS just cut its anime block two weeks ago. Now they play 12 oz. Mouse. *shudder*

The problem with Toonami, it wasn't all about the anime.  It was a blend of Eastern and Western cartoons.
The original premise was just action cartoons.

I haven't seen much Dragonball but I liked DBZ until I realized the shows creators were bat-shit insane.  From what someone who was a fan of the original told me Dragonball was based on the legend of the monkey king and was much better.  But then they decided to do some just complete garbage.
