Eh, lets see..

2003 summer: Dip'n'Dots.  Yes, I made ice cream.

Not just ice cream... ice cream OF THE FUTURE!

that job was fucking crazy.  I think I lowered my IQ by about 20 points from all the CO2 I inhaled in the freezers.  Everyday I'd go home with a hypoxia headache.  There was liquid nitrogen everywhere... sometimes it rained from the fucking ceiling.  You'd think making icecream would be marginally safe right?  Have you ever seen someone trip and land with their arm in a vat of liquid nitrogen and icecream?  NOT PRETTY.

Summer 2005: Internship at TKC Communications building a website with a group of other kids from my high school.

Summer 2006: Internship at Northern Virginia Community College doing mundane IT stuff.

2007 - Present: IT manager at Prince William Regional Technology Academy (I'm the only IT employee there).

Summer 2008: Another internship at Northern Virginia Community College doing mundane IT stuff (while still working at the Tech Academy).

No way, liquid nitrogen isn't nearly as dangerous as you'd think. As long as its not sustained exposure to large quantities of it, the vapor layer will keep you safe. You can even hold it in your hands and dunk you hands in bowls of it.

Oct 2000 - Oct 2001: Service Clerk @ Walgreen's. $6.45 - $6.75/hr. I rang up stuff and restocked candy.

Oct 2001 - Jun 2008: Certified Pharmacy Tech @ Walgreen's. $8.50 - $11.30/hr. I sold drugs. I kept this job all through Engineering school at Purdue, working at least 20 hrs/wk. SUCK.

Aug 2003 - Aug 2004: Early Talent Identification (EID) Intern @ GE Medical Systems Information Technologies (now GE Healthcare Information Technologies), Clinical Systems division. Salary, $690/wk ($17.25 @ 40 hrs/wk). I helped prototype a new addition to their line of ICU patient monitors, then did software testing & bug verification for their installed base (read: old model) ICU patient monitors. For those not in the know, an ICU patient monitor is a machine that goes PING!.

Jun 2008 - now: Automation Design Engineer @ Integrated Motion. Salary, ~$25/hr @ 40 hrs/wk + benefits. I spec and program motion control systems for manufacturing equipment. Basically, programming anything you'd find on 'How Its Made'.  One of our biggest clients is one of the only companies in the world that makes Cookie Capper machines, the equipment used to manufacture Oreo-like cookies.

yeah, it just burns the hell out of you when it splashes onto exposed skin.  I saw a girl take a splash down the front of her coveralls, after she got back from the restroom she said she had a giant red burn on her chest.  I told her that was something I'd like to see.

I wish I had more jobs that were merely crap and not shit, but here we go... since leaving high school I've done:

- Dishwasher: On and off from 2000 to 2003
- Flagger (those people who hold the slow/stop signs for road construction): Summer of 2000
- Deli clerk: half of 2003
- Web developer: 2004-2007
- Gaming store clerk: holiday of 2007
- Software tester: 2008 so far...

Nothing really memorable aside from the web dev job. Shame I can't seem to get back into the field...

I am still relatively sure that this thread already existed at some point, but since I can't find it and I might be full of shit, I thought I would start one again anyway.

This thread is for you to post the jobs you've held in life thus far, including funny stories about them. It doesn't have to be in any sort of order, but I'm going to try for my own OCD purposes.

1. In highschool, I worked at a local greenhouse, the local library (volunteer work), and the local outlet for the cheese factory. By far, the cheese factory outlet was my favorite job; all the free cheese I could "find", no more than like 7 - 10 customers a day, and very little to do when there was no cheese to cut. I got lots of reading done that summer in the big walk-in cooler.

2. As soon as I moved to the city I had to get some jobs; the first ones I had I worked at the same time. These were at a party supply store and a Cotton Ginny clothing store in the same strip mall. Out of the two I liked the party supply store best. I remember one halloween that I was dressed as a ghost, selling costumes; I had my face covered in a mask and when a 20 or so year old woman came in, she screamed. Her mom came up to me and said that her daughter had a fear of masks, so I agreed to take it off.   Some 30 minutes later I put it back on thinking she had left; right away I turned a corner and bumped right into her. I have never seen someone run so fast for the door... I felt really bad.

3. Both of those jobs went out of business at about the same time and so I had to move on; I worked for Winners for awhile; shitty job. I was made to do everything and got in trouble when I couldn't do the work of at least four people all by myself. I quit one evening.

5. Worked for A & B sound, selling CD's and movies and shit. That was fun until all the people in my department, friends outside of work, got me fired by telling my boss that I did jack shit when in fact THEY did jack shit and I did all the work. It came as a shock to everyone else when I was laid off on christmas eve; they knew that if they needed something from our department they called ME. It was fucking bullshit and I got smashed that night at a LAN party.

6. I went to Convergys. Here I worked taking American customer service phone calls for Fedex. This job sucked ass. You took over 200 calls a day and you were supposed to be off that phone ASAP; couldn't be off for more than 30 seconds when you're not on a break. Eventually after like a year I got promoted and was made an MOD and put into the international shipping department as well.

My favorite stories here include a guy shipping a snake which got loose in the main sorting facility in memphis, a guy shipping his grandmother's remains to mexico and the authorities there threatening to throw her out, a guy seriously inquiring about shipping his family and disguising them with coffee beans to avoid the sniffing dogs, and various drug busts where the seller is on the one line and the cops are on the other.

7I worked for Manitoba Hydro for a time after that, answering phones as well. They fucked me over and fired me for being sick which they can't do and I took them for 2K, which I was awarded.

8.
Worked for a greenhouse; good times, but I quit to go on vacation.

9. Worked for Convergys again for awhile, being trained for Comcast customer service instead this time. I didn't enjoy it at all and when they tried to transfer me to customer service for digital phone, i quit the day the paid training ended. Best day of my life.

10. Worked for Hickory Farms in the local shopping mall at christmas; that was a fun job, selling shit and giving samples to customers. Free lunch.

I went to school after this again, and only worked one more time at Hickory Farms again, being forced to quit because they were paying me too much and student loans was having a hissy fit.

111. I am starting a new greenhouse job tomorrow.

My parent's restaurant.
Chinese and Japanese restaurant in America, in fucking New England.
2 british/english girls come in one day, they order fries and chicken balls.

We have no idea what the fuck they're on to, so we ask. They describe the chicken balls, and we get our chef to make them. It was General Tso's Chicken without the sauce on some broccoli. They said "yeah, its that, but without the brocolli."

WAT

I'm also "self-employed", with my commissions and shit.

I have had three jobs in my young life.

I worked as a freelance architect, meaning I worked for commissions.  It was an awesome job, but the money just wasn't there.  No one wants to hire an 18 year old architect straight out of college.

I substituted lost income from lack of commissions by also working at Wal-Mart in the Electronics section.  This was basically an excuse for me to stock some shelves, help people with tech questions and get paid to talk video games/movies all day long.

Last May (wow, been almost a year already), shortly after joining BRB, U I joined the US Air Force.  I went through 8 weeks of fun times at Lackland AFB (San Antonio, TX) for basic training, then went to Keesler AFB (Biloxi, MS) for training on my job for two months.  To finish things off I did a 6 month training session at Sheppard AFB (Wichita Falls, TX) for the last of my training.  I now work on the C-5 Galaxy here in beautiful Travis AFB (Fairfield, CA) and will be here as a Communications/Navigations/Mission Systems troop for a few good years hopefully.

I drop fiber optics for the county. You know those VDOT (Virginia Depertment of Transportation, called something else in other states/countries, basically the state certified road techs) guys you see standing by the side of the road, holding up traffic for construction, but no matter how many times you pass, none of them are doing ANYTHING besides holding shovels and talking?

They actually pay us for that.
