I have lost all hope of this game possibly being good. Maybe I'm a cynic, but, after crunching the numbers, I'd put the new odds at 13.64% chance of being a good game, 0.1% chance of being a good fallout game Also I've only seen 360 leak so far. Word on the street is that it was some beth guys nephew ;D

People are so uptight about "their" franchises being shredded to pieces. And you wonder why we don't see many new IP's...

For less than the 5 million they paid for fallout they could have hired a creative team to make an original post-apocalyptic RPG, and no one would be bitching, hell they could even say they 'drew ideas from' or 'were inspired by' fallout and no one would be bitching. Heck I might even be a little bit excited about it. However, once you put on that name-sake you have some really big mother-fucking shoes to fill. Same thing goes with like Final Fantasy, a lot of older fans that played and loved stuff like IV and VI just look at XIII and facepalm at how far square is off what it used to be. I honestly hope am absolutely wrong on all of this and it turns out to actually be a game worth buying, I hope I eat my words. But I'm not holding my breath on it. Â Sig by Joel |

Well I'm going into Fallout 3 fresh, having never played the originals, so to me it's just a new game. If it gets me away from STALKER, I know I'll like it lol

I just don't understand why they got rid of the turn-based action for real time. Plenty of games work fine with Turn based movement these days such as any tactics game or any RPG.
There was no reason to get rid of it except to attract the COD4/Halo crowd. It's not fair to call us retarded just because we want one of our favorite franchises not to be tarnished. I'm sure everyone would feel like we did if (Hypothetical) Squenix bought the rights to Metal Gear solid and made it a fighting game or EA bought the Final Fantasy Franchise and made it a FPS. This is almost the same exact thing in my eyes. |

Or if someone took a a favorite RTS and turned it into an MMORPG of all things (WoW), or if someone took a a favorite FPS and turned it into an RTS (Halo Wars), or took a favorite RPG and turned it into a RTS (Tactics advance) or if someone took a favorite platformer and turned it into an RPG (paper mario), driving game (mario cart), etc. Wait, some would say those are some good games. Taking the setting and the soul of an old, established, and beloved IP to a new genre has resulted in some really great games, and some really shitty ones. The key to a good game is, always, in execution, and you never know until you play the damn thing. Note, good game does not mean financially successful or popular, see BG&E. Yes, this is not the turn-based rpg fallout that you wanted. But, I think that you have a better chance of seeing a turn based rpg fallout sequel in the future if F3 is successful than if Infogrames let the IP rot under their fat asses. My pipedream is that this will lead to a turn-based rpg called Fallout:Deserted Station. |

Now if Bethesda decided to make Fallout: FPS Apocalypse then i wouldn't have a problem. But this is the direct sequel and from the looks of it the series in Bethesdas hands won't go back to the original formula. |

Heck I raged about FFXI and them making it an MMORPG, again all they had to do was call it FF: Online and not make it a main-series game :-\

They still get sequels in the original formula because the IP wasn't mothballed into a dormant state. There is a reason that Nintendo, Square, and MS pump out games for those franchises on a regular basis - to keep the IP alive. For all intents and purposes, the Fallout IP has been in a coma until Bethesda will try to revive it. If they successful in reviving the Fallout IP, I am sure they would be willing to license the IP to other developers to pursue other genres. Look at the plethora of spinoffs that hit the DS or PSP that play nothing like the PC/console version. Again, I am hoping for a DS turn based rpg in the fallout world. But, since the Fallout IP has been dormant, they need the first game out of the gate to be a blockbuster to renew interest. Since FPSes are more popular than turn based RPGs, that seems like a safer bet to revive the IP. How many turn-based rpgs are selling well these days? As for Caff's complaint about numbering, that's just marketing. |

KoToR 1 was released in 2003 and 2 in 2004/5. Not exactly a what I would call popular in recent times. Even if you add Mass Effect, which had a similar pause mechanic (that sucked, I just ran around and shot people anyway without ever needing to use strategery), that amounts to 3 games in 5 years. The Call of Duty* franchise alone has had 4 games in the same time period. *which, while we are on the topic of IP, I think "CoD4" having the "CoD" label slapped on it rather than "awesome modern shooter" actually hurt the reception of that game. I think the monotony of the CoD 1-3 plus the millions of other WW2 shooters actually drug CoD4 down, till the word-of-mouth about the awesome gameplay got out. It's like, which was the good Star Trek movie? |
