Guess I will find out on my own soon but does anyone know if HTH combat is still in this game?  It truly was one of my favorite ways to play until I got to the enclave fights.

You haven't been following much have you?  Yes it is, although in VATS you can only do full body hits

Shacknews' review is pretty positive. Mentions a couple of times how it evokes the feel of an old-school PC RPG, with that Deus Ex-esque FPS-RPG hybrid gameplay.

This was actually encouraging, especially this part

"More than that, as I stated above, Fallout 3 just feels like a PC game."

That makes me happy, Im going to torrent it today and if I do enjoy it I will be purchasing.

I believe this is the first positive thing Caff has said about fallout 3 in 8 months.  Who says reviews can't change minds Big Grin

Ive said time and again, DEVELOP FOR THE PC FIRST THEN PORT TO CONSOLES YOU SHIT HEADED DEVELOPERS

Id trust a review from Shacknews or Arstecha before any gaming website, final verdict will come after I have played it

I'm pretty enthusiastic. Any note on what the DRM is like? I remember with Oblivion you could use one disc for as many installs as you liked, so I was planning on splitting a copy with a friend since we're both shit broke. Would that work?

Well I just spent about...6 hours or so playing it, really getting into the game.  Not sure how far along I really am story wise, but I've been helping out people in the various places and I'm really liking the game.

Now I never played the originals so I can't tell if they are "Raping the name" or what and I never played Oblivion cause fantasy games lately seem very unexciting and uninteresting so I didn't touch it.  Saw a friend play it for abit...No thank you lol

Coming into it as someone who enjoys post-apocalyptic settings (STALKER, zombie games), I think the game does that pretty well.  Everything looks destroyed, there are mutants, super mutants, raiders, psycho's, and ROBOTS.  That was a fun thing to come across.

The idea of the apocalyptic world sorta confuses me, but I guess it's a unique take on the world when the bombs dropped.  It's a 50's setting, but the bombs dropped in 2027 and it's also futuristic with laser weapons and robots.  Gotta wrap your head around that, but it works lol

I really like the combat.  You have the option of just going FPS on the enemies ass, though there are times when the VATS system really helps and the payoff when a guys head explodes or a leg goes flying is really rewarding.

Overall the game is pretty fun and on the top of my list of best games played this year.

I stopped paying attention after all the disappointing things that I have read.  I just realized that I was interested in that ability.

I believe the DRM uses Starforce or some rubbish, but it's only in place to do a CD check.  So as long as you get a noCD for the game, it should be fine I would hope.  That's how Oblivion worked anyways.

Oblivion had absolutely zero copy protection. Seriously, a friend just ripped the disc for me, and I mounted the image on my computer and was good to go.

Well yes, it had a disc check that also worked for an .iso mounted to a virtual drive.  There was still a noCD crack if you didn't want to bother with that.  I think there is some actual DRM here this time, but only limitation it imposes still a disc check.  I just know it hasn't been as simple as burning an .iso like with Oblivion, otherwise I'd probably not have downloaded it by now.

The RELOADED release doesn't even come with a crack, just install and play. I guess they've made whatever necessary amendments to the install files but the DRM must have been pretty flimsy.

Or maybe they just realize that spending tons of money on drm just frustrates actual customers, while pirates will still get to play it anyways? :-\

this game plays so much like oblivion its not funny.

good news if you liked oblivion , bad news if you wanted turn based fallout.

to be fair they did a wonderful job on taking the guts of fallouts character development system and put it into oblivion 4

srsly though , i go afk , and the camera is spinning around ...
or
i can steal from a guy even though im standing right on top of him
or
i press T to wait X hours
or
i can take any conversation path and still end up at the same destination at the end

just like oblivion

the rest of the thread should make literal comparisons from the elder scrolls 4 Fallout 3 , to Oblivion

Firstly, DRM is absolutely nothing. You may have heard about SecuROM worries but they aren't the least bit problematic, really. One NoCD EXE later and I'm in game.

And I stayed there. For seven hours. I haven't been this engrossed in a game since Portal, and I finished that in three-and-a-half hours. So consider that my testimony. Bethesda has eliminated some of the faults that ruined the sense of immersion in Oblivion, not to mention created a highly detailed gameworld where there's little to no terrain repetition and every square mile is littered with shit to explore. It's frankly amazing. I'm extremely impressed.

Screw you =(.  Now I'm tempted to go spend money I don't have again.
