Also not a fan of how I have access to a minigun, laser pistol and flamethrower so early in the game.

Well, you could finish fallout 1 in an hour if you went off the normal track.

And no it's not as good as the old fallouts imho but it's a fun game nonetheless and I feared it being a lot worse.... So I give credit where credit is due, Bethesda made a lot better game than Oblivion which does give me that 'post-apocalyptic' feeling and is mostly enjoyable...

So... good game: Yes
Good fallout sequel: Jury is still out but leaning to 'yes but the weakest of the three'

i think the same, it is a good game, but they slapped Fallout for marketing.

As i told Krissy, this game should be called "Oblivion 2: now with guns and crazy zooms"

Or it should have been called "Fallout:  The Oblivion Chronicles" and left room to make an actual true sequel for all us crazed fanboys

Well, it's a lot better than Oblivion ever was... And they did get a lot of things right... Off course it's not as pure and good as it would be if it was Black Isle doing the sequel... but if I look past some discrepancies it's a good game which I've been enjoying a lot.

The reason why I wouldn't call this 'Oblivion with guns' is the very simple fact of that they got rid of most of the things that made Oblivion a terrible game... The world here is at least interesting and it feels like an actual RPG...

I'm someone who loved Fallout 1 and 2 (going so far as saying they're my favourite games of all time) and hated Oblivion with a passion. This game will not dethrone the old Fallouts but at least they didn't make the same mistakes they made with Oblivion... It's a lot better imho than Fallout tactics or Fallout BoS... and probably the best RPG released in the last two years... (Although I haven't played Mother 3 yet but that wasn't exactly released in the last 2 years...)

All IMHO off course but it's not half as bad as I expected it to be...

It is indeed, but it just doesn't feel like Fallout

Is like if they release a Starcraft FPS....

oh wait...

Well, at least it was being developed by Blizzard

Well, yes and no.... On some points it does feel like Fallout and on others it doesn't. The design of the areas and the choice in sounds and music does make the 'feel' quite fallout-like.... The lack of humour otoh... does not... Off course if you meant 'it's not isometric and turn based' then no, it doesn't feel like that at all... but I'm looking past that although I would have preferred it if they forced you to use VATS all the time and not give you the real time option, if they did that I would have been really happy, FP perspective or not...

Im sure someone will mod that, you could just change the camera angle to force Isometric in combat. Allow players to toggle while exploring, then all you have to do is mod the combat system some to make it flow like regular fallout.

My torrent should be done late tonight or tomorrow...

Found a Reloaded fix, installed, and playing <3. I think the way the game opens is pretty awesome with the character design dealy. Buuuutttt yeah, the VATS combat can be a little over the top with the decapitations and head explosions. Not over the top as in being to graphic, it just happens to easily.

And with strange aeons, even Death may lay down in the street and die.

Mother 3's release date: April 20th 2006 Wink I get what you're saying though, and am eager to pick it up after you're glowing recommendation. Do I need to know the plot of Fallout 1 and 2 to appreciate this one? I fully intend to play the originals, but since a seeded torrent of them is hard to find, and Fallout 3 is just a few clicks away on Steam, I'm getting a little antsy.

I don't think its necessary, but at some point you should. I believe you can get 1&2 on gametap and GOG. Pay for them since they've been retooled to run on modern systems where as the torrents you might have a problem with.

So are the plots completly uncorrelated, despite there shared settings, or is it more like a Mother 3esque connection, where the prior isn't needed, but greatly adds to the experience?

Also, if I legit buy them, can I still install the fan patches?

Oddly enough, I've mainly been using a flamethrower and my fists so far, which is the LEAST "violent" way to play the game, as I rarely get any sort of ridiculous exploding limbs like that.  And then it's totally awesome on the rare chance I DO punch someone's face off.

Legit buy them off GoG, that stuff fully supports mods, is cheap, and comes with lots of extra goodies.

Another gripe:

Shouldn't be too much of a surprise but they sure make you focus on combat a lot more than in the previous fallouts.  Granted I had a pain in the ass time getting through the early stages of fallout 2 with my speech/science guy but at least I picked up some friends along the way to help me fight until I got powerful enough.

In this I am by myself with sub par weapons skills against groups of Super Mutants, one being armed with a minigun.  It's rough I tell ya.

If you pick up the sniper early in the game from the megaton shopkeep mission, minigun = yours minus 5 sniper bullets

Also, bloody mess =  ;D ;D ;D ;D

I've noticed, unfortunately, that the miniguns same to have the same range as the sniper rifle :p  I'll be up on a hill scoping out a target, and his buddies are raining bullets down on me from half a mile away (you know what I mean).

I do know what you mean.  I'll lose half my health, then become crippled in the head, and be like wtf?  I'll mash my finger on the v button until I find something until I realize I'mma getting minigunned from a mile away.  tbh I usually pop around some cover to shoot him, then stop once he starts shooting, then shoot at him again once the gun is spinned down  Tongue

and I still can't play a game that has RPG in it's description.
I must be too dumb or something, or I figure, shouldn't I get done with my life before I start another one in a game? choices choices choices. god dammit. I always feel so god damned implicated when someone gives me a sidequest I lose track and fuck I need to beat those fuckin super mutants.

Now where was I? I thought I'd play this more on the rpg stance, but can't help but feel fackin helpless with my conversation apptitude, sneaking and weaponless skills against bloody fuckin mutants and their miniguns.

Mind you, i only died once, met that brotherhood of steel, tried using my rifle, thing can't keep up, why does my character have to shoot like a godarned drunkass. Also how many fuckin bullets to the head can someone take really.

sometimes it just sucks to be an fpser.

also, how come it's fuckin hard to repair pipes, I know the complexity of pipes godammit I'm a plumber, zero fuckin complex, i don't need a fuckin master plumber to tell me this. shove your repair points in your arse. it feels like the fuckin canadian army where I need to take a fuckin class to be capable of holding a fuckin spoon.

/rant over...for now.

it reminds me of deus ex in that perspective, but I don't want my abilities to be restricted, I want them all.
