Actually I take back what I said about this game performing better than Oblivion.  I'm having a lot of problems with "inconsistent" framerates and a fair amount of crashes, or graphical freakouts causing me to restart.  I'm certainly glad that I DIDN'T buy the game at this point.  It's not as bad as Oblivion when it came out, but it's still really damn unstable so far =<.  Will probably buy it later on if it sees proper patch and mod support though.

i had my first freeze last night (i could alt tab and see my cursor, but the game was still on top of everything), pretty gay. there was also a point where my sound cut out completely, but then it came back 5 minutes later.

and ya, most of the time my FPS is pretty swell, but it'll chug once in a while for no apparent reason.

i could count the number of crashes ive had on one hand , happened more if i alt tabbed , but with the frequency that the game autosaves , or me quicksaving every 10 meters , i never lost that much progress

also: did not like the ending.

Bethesda says that +200 variations of the ending cinematic are accessible depending on how the game is played,
I didn't like the ending, the climax of the story's main quest was really quick to come and go.

Or it should have been called "Fallout:  The Oblivion Chronicles" and left room to make an actual true sequel for all us crazed fanboys
and probably the best RPG released in the last two years... (Although I haven't played Mother 3 yet but that wasn't exactly released in the last 2 years...)
Mother 3's release date: April 20th 2006 Wink I get what you're saying though, and am eager to pick it up after you're glowing recommendation. Do I need to know the plot of Fallout 1 and 2 to appreciate this one? I fully intend to play the originals, but since a seeded torrent of them is hard to find, and Fallout 3 is just a few clicks away on Steam, I'm getting a little antsy.
I don't think its necessary, but at some point you should. I believe you can get 1&2 on gametap and GOG. Pay for them since they've been retooled to run on modern systems where as the torrents you might have a problem with.
So are the plots completly uncorrelated, despite there shared settings, or is it more like a Mother 3esque connection, where the prior isn't needed, but greatly adds to the experience?

Also, if I legit buy them, can I still install the fan patches?
Legit buy them off GoG, that stuff fully supports mods, is cheap, and comes with lots of extra goodies.
Or download them here.  Even better, they're fully optimized to run off of a flash drive, so I can play at school.

Surprise!  Another gripe about the game:

Why do ghouls move as fast as the infected from 28 days later?  The whole thing with ghouls from the fallout series was that they moved nearly at a snails pace but had amazing perception.

The ghouls in Fallout 3 move at you with blinding speed and just tear at you.

Granted gameplay wise it adds a interesting enemy to the mix but its just another thing that doesn't stay true to the fallout series.

I found a unique FISTO! , which is great since I'm probably the only person that specialized in unarmed.  And ghouls being fast just makes it easier for them to get up close where I can punch their face in or blow them away with a basketball.

If ghouls are all zombies thats fucking lame. In 1 and 2 they were sentient and could be on your side, usually helping/harming them played a role in some quest's choice.

No, they aren't, those are just the "feral ghouls".  There's plenty of normal ghouls you can talk to and make drugs with.  However the funny thing is, every Ghoul I've seen uses the voice actor for the female Dremorians in Oblivion  Also, why in the fuckingcuntpunt have you been "downloading" the game for like a week now?  Did you cap your torrent to 5/kbs download?

#1 - I downloaded it and deadspace at the same time
#2 - I sleep in the same room as my PC, its really really bright, so I turn it off
#3 - I throddle the bandwidth cause my internet at home sucks balls and both I and my parents would like to be able to at least surf normally while I download.

Anyway, installed, crashed immediately when trying to start a new game...looking for a fix

There's plenty of unique weapons in the game.

I've found a special missile launcher at the Outcasts base called the "Mis Launcher".  Fully maxed out and does 90 damage which is alot more than the regular one I think.

I've found two sniper rifles, one call Victory that shoots 5 rounds and will knockdown your target at times and another called Repeater or Repentance or something.  Had an R name, but I forget what it's called. I believe I found that one in a shack to the west before you cross the river.  Don't remember where I found the Victory rifle at.

The girl at the Museum you meat has an Ultra SMG that does like 50+ damage maxed out.  Way better than the normal one and was used alot.

There's a dagger or blade of some sort you get off a Talon Mercenary boss at a bunker...Umm...Think that might've been west or northwest...Can't remember the name, but it had an O and was definitely a unique item.

There's Lincolns Repeater you get at a Museum that may be an 8 to 10 shot replacement for the Hunting Rifle.  Never used it, but was fully maxed and did 52 damage.  Pretty much a lever action rifle.

Believe that's all I've found so far, but there are about a half dozen places I haven't fully explored, though unlocked for quick travel.

Having them at all should be good enough.  A slow moving zombie is never scary, unless they happened to put them together with 5 to 10 other ghouls or made them really strong, which doesn't make much sense to do when they are pretty much just decaying flesh and whatever.

You're wrong on that one.  This is supposed to be a fallout sequel, not a fallout spinoff.  With all the bragging Bethesda did about keeping true to the story they should have the common courtesy to keep ghouls sluggish.  Whats next?  Deathclaws that wear top hats and speak with an English accent?

I don't think much of anything about it is a sequel other than the numbering (though I've been ignoring the main plot so I don't know if that has any ties, but I highly doubt it given how they spoke about the game).  It takes place in an entirely different region of the country and for all intents and purposes is Bethesda's own Fallout game.  "Feral Ghouls" as they are called, are basically unrelated to the ones from Fallout's past, and are Bethesda's own addition.  Normal ghouls exist in the game as well and don't behave like that.

And there is a named version of most of the normal weapons in the game, some are gotten through quests and some are just lying around, but I think they're all static in where you get them.
