Surprise!  Another gripe about the game:

Why do ghouls move as fast as the infected from 28 days later?  The whole thing with ghouls from the fallout series was that they moved nearly at a snails pace but had amazing perception.

The ghouls in Fallout 3 move at you with blinding speed and just tear at you.

Granted gameplay wise it adds a interesting enemy to the mix but its just another thing that doesn't stay true to the fallout series.

Having them at all should be good enough.  A slow moving zombie is never scary, unless they happened to put them together with 5 to 10 other ghouls or made them really strong, which doesn't make much sense to do when they are pretty much just decaying flesh and whatever.
You're wrong on that one.  This is supposed to be a fallout sequel, not a fallout spinoff.  With all the bragging Bethesda did about keeping true to the story they should have the common courtesy to keep ghouls sluggish.  Whats next?  Deathclaws that wear top hats and speak with an English accent?
I don't think much of anything about it is a sequel other than the numbering (though I've been ignoring the main plot so I don't know if that has any ties, but I highly doubt it given how they spoke about the game).  It takes place in an entirely different region of the country and for all intents and purposes is Bethesda's own Fallout game.  "Feral Ghouls" as they are called, are basically unrelated to the ones from Fallout's past, and are Bethesda's own addition.  Normal ghouls exist in the game as well and don't behave like that.

And there is a named version of most of the normal weapons in the game, some are gotten through quests and some are just lying around, but I think they're all static in where you get them.
There's one sidequest (may lead to a series) I've found that has ties to Fallout 1, not saying anything about it, but keep an eye out for Fort Independence. It's Southwestish from Megaton.

Haven't found anything special for melee yet that was any good.  The best melee looked to be the Shishkabob which you make.  And I need to find it also cause I can only find 5 and I've been just about everywhere lol

Did anybody else see the colonial robot in the National Archives? What a nice old chap. I even found one of his spare colonial wigs.

Just beat the game.  Lame ending.  Heartwarming (depending on how you played the game) but lame.

*spoilers below*

Whats with the friggin Replicant quest?  They might as well had the android named Roy Battay.

And then the quest where you return to vault 101, only to be banned for life.  Way to copy off the end of regular Fallout.

During the Quest to get the geck you meet with the President/Computer and if your speech is good enough you get to tell it to kill itself and the Enclave.  Another use of Fallout 1 plot?

And what the hell is with the Iron Giant?  I'll admit it was pretty cool to follow it around but it seemed pretty out of place.

*Endspoiler*

You know for a game I talked about disliking so much I sure played a lot of it.  In the end it was a fun game (usually though if you throw a create-a-character and RPG like character progression in a game I will be hooked).  I am still sticking to my initial statement though that this was a poor Fallout Sequel.

And like Wedge and Eschatos stated in the past that this shouldn't be looked at as a sequel but just Bethesdas version of the Fallout universe but I remember Bethesda almost boasting about how this would be a proper sequel and so forth.

I'm like averting my eyes from reading whatever you put there, but that's seriously not a great to hide a spoiler.  Go shrink the text to super tiny size or something.

Yeah you know, if I had touched the main quest at all and didn't have five other games to be playing.

Fix'd.  Yeah that works a lot better than my half-assed spoiler tags.

And if I knew the main quest would be that easy to get through and so short I would have definitely wandered some more.

Alright, so I finally got his to run so here's my initial impressions...

The Good
 • VATs - I use it for almost everything, if you play this game like an FPS you are doing it wrong
 • Environment design - loads better than oblivion
 • Fixed shitty problems with oblivion (level adjusted mobs, and infinitely spawning mobs, if you kill a nightly super mutant patrol, don't expect them to come back.
 • Quest Variety
 • References to old fallouts
 • Radiation System
 • A few surprising moral choice twists so far
 • Character/Monster model design and overall art direction
 • Non-combat skills mean something
 • Kept the karma system

The Bad
 • Game still seems to be mostly combat-oriented
 • VATs does not auto-engage when you 'perceive' an enemy to attack you, Id rather it automatically start so I don't start taking damage before I even see someone.
 • No option for an iso-like camera angle, if even just for cinematic
 • No indication of my overall karmic points, and no 'per town karma'
 • No option to turn off VATS slow mo
 • TAG Skills go up by 1 point instead of 3 for every point of skill you put in Sad

The Ugly
 • The world seems way too 'crowded' for the waste land, bethesta tried to cram too much into the world, like one of the first quests this lady asks me to go check out a ruined store, its literally right next to the town, why didnt they send someone else in the past Oh I don't know, 200 years since the war ended
 • No world map = no car = no random 'special' encounters
 • Limited to 1 party member, 1&2 your limit was (Charisma / 2)
 • Negative karma for stealing shit NO ONE KNOWS ABOUT, seriously wtf

Overall I think they could have spread this game out a TON by having a real world map, and just making it sort of like fallout 1 & 2 in that respect, it would keep the game from feeling so tight, it just doesn't make sense to have a big raider encampment literally right next door to a town.

Verdict: Buy, its not the vomit inducing game I thought it would be, but bethesda seems to have listened to people, heres to hoping someone mods the ever loving crap out of it to make a real fallout...

You seem to misunderstand the definition of Karma:

Quote:Karma (Sanskrit: कर्म kárma (help·info), kárman- "act, action, performance"[1]; Pali: kamma) is the concept of "action" or "deed" in Indian religions understood as that which causes the entire cycle of cause and effect (i.e., the cycle called saṃsāra) originating in ancient India and treated in Hindu, Jain, Sikh and Buddhist philosophies.

Karma is all about how your moral choices affect who you are as a person.  It's not supposed to be a "bounty" like in Oblivion, it's a permanent scale that balances depending on what moral choices you make for your character.  As such it also doesn't have a display that shows you how much you have, you can only guess how much Karma you have by the amount of bad-deeds you have done and how other people will perceive you.  It's impossible to really get a seriously bad-rap globally stealing stuff unless you steal everything and/or are an OBVIOUS thief I think.

Um, thats not how the old games worked and I know what karma is.

In 1 & 2 there was a nice little number in your stats that started at 0 and went up or down based on your actions. It also said what your status was in each town. For example, you could dick over own town and be vilified and be nice to their neighbors and be a hero.

Aerox said this does exist in 3, but it is not displayed, why, I dont know.

Also another really annoying thing, no 'holster weapon' button.
