THANK YOU! This has been annoying me for a while now...

Yah I found that out during the molerat repellent quest but it never occured to me to hold the R button...
you'd have figured it out earlier if you were using melee

  • No world map = no car = no random 'special' encounters

This actually isn't entirely true.  I've noticed there are certain locations on the map that when you come across do have "random" events happening at them.  Because I died at a point a few times, and had to go through such an area each time from my last save.  The first time I was there, there was a group of raiders standing around and hazing a raider initiate (I blew them all up with a grenade for lulz).  The second time there was a merchant travelling with a Yao Guai pet.  The third time there was the corpse of a Chinese soldier with a radio beacon on him.  Now, I don't know if there is anything particularly interesting that can come up at this points, but if it's luck based like in FO, I had shit for luck, so I probably wouldn't see anything interesting anyways.

And on the note of other things the game does not tell you and you may not know without a manual, the game still has the 1-8 hotkey system from Oblivion, where you can hold the 1-8 keys and assign an item/equipment to it.

I did the EXACT same thing :3

However, Im talking like the really freaky ones that are usually some kind of popculture reference, ie Star Trek, Elvis alien abduction, Monty Python, or Hitch Hikers.

I doubt they'd have the bridge of death encounter from FO2 Sad

I wouldn't put this under the good.  Granted it is a fun feature (more fun than I thought it would be) all I ended up doing was running up to something and either "Vatting" it in the head and then running til I got more VAT points or just shot at the gun until it got disarmed and then fired at the fleeing enemy.  VATs made the game way too easy.[/list]

I fucking loved that one, but probably because it was the only popculture random event I got.  Still, I don't know how you'd find yourself stuck at the wrong end of a bridge to nowhere.

Well I beat it. It ended way too abruptly. I thought I was hours away from the end but no. Throughout the whole game though, I really felt like I was creating my own story. I haven't had that sensation in a videogame before. Fable didn't do that for me at all, for example. Also, near the end I had one of the greatest "Ah-ha!" moments I have in a game when I realized what the password was. Well, it was great while it lasted. I hardly got to scratch the surface though.

The most gameplay is in the sidequests and the exploring... The old fallouts were like this as well... if you stick to the main quest you're missing more than half of the game...

Played it a bit at a friend's house over the weekend. It was the PS3 version, but I wasn't too concerned about how controls.

Looks like a lot of fun, but I'm the kind of person that I'll constantly be second-guessing my choices wondering if I could've done it "a better way". Mind you, the big choice I second-guessed was when I killed the overseer, which apparently ruined any chance of getting into his daughter's pants. Tongue

I do really like how if you gear yourself to be a good talker you can do good things without getting your hands dirty. Shame though that customizing your character's look seems to mean nothing aside from your gender, as even if you wanted to go into 3rd person all you see is your back (correct me if I'm wrong about this though).

Well... when you die you get to see your face.  And if you sit down you might catch a glimpse.  That's all I've seen so far.  On a related note, my charecter originally looked like my business teacher from high school till I put some glasses on him, then he looked like Gordan Freeman, and then I put a fedora on top of that and he looks like Yahtzee now.  Big Grin

Meh, but the old fallouts had a in depth, challenging main quest to it.  I remember in 2 having to go into the mini Enclave base and then having to get the ocean liner to run in order to go to the main base of operations.  I remember the time it took to get from those two points in the main quest was quite a bit of time.

You do the main quest in Fallout 3 and you can pretty much accidentally get to the end like I did due to it being so short and easy.

Hold down the middle mouse in third person and you can rotate the camera.  I believe if you just leave it idle for a while, it will auto-orbit around you.

Also, one very useful console command:

"fov 90"

I suddenly feel much less claustrophobic, yay!

fov 90? I'll try it.

Also, I like how the start of this thread, before Fallout 3 was released, was mostly "God, this game is gonna suck because it's not like the Original Fallouts" even though the originals were made by Interplay, and in the interviews, Bethesda has stated that they aren't following the Fallout story 100%, and trying to make their own experience.  If you got the collectors edition with the Making Of DVD, they talk about how it's more a homage to the original games, not a sequel.

But yeah, the end of this thread looks alot like praise mostly.  Much like every forum I've seen about Fallout 3.
Alot of people who have told me they hated Oblivion have said they love Fallout 3, and that's pretty good.

"Doctor, we need your help defusing this atom bomb!" "OPEN THAT SHIT UP!" *Pew Pew Pew* "Who knew being a Doctor would be this awesome!" "Let me assist you, Doctor..." :O

Most of the fear came from the terrible game that was oblivion... This game eliminated that fear by actually removing all the fail from oblivion...

Fortunatly, the parents owe me money.
Unfortunatly, we're a little short on cash at the moment.
