Wow, I am totally over my head.  I did get a feel for it though and it seems like it gets easier as you go.  Playing with it definitely helped me refine my idea though.

It is a literal construction site, I don't know how many people have seen them, but its sort of part of my job.  Anyways so it's a square lot.  occupying maybe 50% of the space is a large building.  This building will be 7 stories with capture points on levels 1, 4 and 7.  It is placed against the far wall.  In one of the opposing corners is a portable which serves as Blue's spawn.  Just outside of the construction office / portable is a 5 story scaffolding.  This scaffolding is fairly small and is somewhat enclosed on the fifth story to serve as a snipers perch.  In the other corner across from the building is a row of porto-potties.

Now the building's first floor is complete and as you go up the tower the building has more and more peices missing.  The top two floors are pretty bare-bones with the structural components in connected by peices of sheet metal.  This will probably be a no build zone.  The 7th floor will have no roof just frame but in one of the corners against the wall it will have another construction office with a sheet metal gangway going down to the level.  The last point is in the middle and you have to run along sheet metal gangplanks to get there.

Now the sides of the building.  One side will have scaffolding broken up so that scouts can double jump there way up and soldiers and demos can rocket/nade jump up as well but won't have much health for them.  On the other side there will be a crane that offers a way to wall jump up like in this rj adventure maps.  The front will not have much in the way of usable features but will have increasingly less wall space as you go up to provide for good sniping.

The inside of the building will look like, well a building under construction.  The first floor will have different partitions and areas to hide in, as you go up there will be more holes in the floor until you get to the top 2 floors that are the bare structure.  It will have elevators and stairs to get up through the floors.  You can also use the holes to rocket jump up to the next story.  As far as the specific floor layouts, I wanted each to be unique but I haven't quite figured it out yet.

Also if possible I wanted a trash chute with a no-stick surface that you could send stickies down and into the 5th floor of the scaffolding where the snipers will be hanging out.

Like surf I have no mapping experience but Ive been thinking of a way to make the engineer important in arena besides keeping a dispenser up. What if in arena when you died you didnt just sit out until next round, instead you got put in a holding cell in the other teams spawn. If all players get put in the holding cell, or a middle point is captured game over, but the catch is that some one on can hit a switch to release his captured teammates. Maybe the switch could be made melee only or you just have to put it at a place where it cant be shot at from outside

Most arena games usually come down to a medic spy or scout left, so what if they could make one last effort to get their team back on top, instead of just trying to ambush the capture point. Engineers would be important again and arena would have a defensive aspect. The games would be slightly longer, and the map would need to be a little bigger than most arena  maps but it sounds like fun to me.

You know.  It really sucks being the only one that knows how to do hammer besides certain other people.  I get so many requests.

I liked surfs idea. with the outdoor pieces now id like to see a volcano vertical map, from the shore to base camp, than camp to an entrance at the top of the volcano, than  through a secret lair to set up to the very top of the volcano where you push the payload into the magma and the whole place explodes.
