the FN FAL is the Assault Rifle, they just didn't name it that.

it's still badass. has anybody else got the alien pistol yet? it kills pretty much every enemy in the game in one or two shots, including the final boss, but you only get 120 bullets for it.

Just upgrade the traveling merchants at Canterbury Commons, and then get them to repair it.  Either that, or download the mod that majorly decreases weapon degradation.
