Yeah, no. I have the shishkebob, but not what I meant. What I was alluding to is the confusing effect of playing a lot of Left 4 Dead at the same time, every time a mob rushes me in Fallout I want to shove it back and plug it in the head with my pistol. Every time I get rushed I spam right clicks instinctively.

Yeah I have no clue why Bethesda left out any sort of Alternative attack for melee weapons (except for maybe appeasing the console gaming, gun crazy crowd). They could have even copied over the special attacks from Oblivion and I would have been somewhat happy. Leaving out called shots for melee could arguably be acceptable since it would be too easy to run up on someone and "head shot" them but hell even in the old fallouts you could kick someone if you wanted to. |

Fallout 3 DLC coming and it sounds pretty neat. Basically new game areas to explore, the first taking you back to Operation: Anchorage before the bombs fell. I know I'll get a kick from that, being that I was from Alaska lol Second pack will take you to a Pittsburgh that wasn't royally blown to shit like DC was. Third one doesn't have much info, but will bring up the level cap, add new baddies, etc...Also this one actually continues after the end of the game...how that will work out due to the ending, no ones sure, but we'll see. At 10 bucks a piece, we are practically getting a second game. New weapons and armor is gonna be fun. |
You shouldn't it just encourages them and other developers to release half finished games at full price then tack on things later and charge you more. How come valve can update TF2 over and over again and do it for free. They already stated they are going to put up more l4d campaigns, and they HOST public servers on their own dime, yet charge us nothing. How come valve can do this if it isn't "financially viable" for a company. Its just bullshit leeching, an expansion pack is different, these will likely be just little bits they add on. Id bet Pittsburg will be 25% the size of the DC Metro area of the map and they'll just add a working 'train' or something up by the republic of dave. Then charge you 20% of what the game was in the first place for a tiny amount of new things.  Sig by Joel |

Valve:  Episode 1 4-6 hours for 20 bucks = 5 bucks an hour  Episode 2 6 hours for 15 bucks = 2.50 bucks an hour Bethesda:   Shivering Isles = 30 hours for 30 bucks = 1 buck an hour   Knights of the Nine = 6-10 hours for 20 bucks boxed = $3.33 an hour (cheaper if you get the 10 buck DLC, I priced the expensive boxed version)   Fallout DLC (From Maxon's article) 4-5 hours for 10 bucks = 2.5 bucks an hour *where variable hours are listed, I used the least amount of hours. Now, you might argue that Valve uses the premium charged to finance free TF2 and L4D upgrades, and that is probably true. However, it is also true that Valve only fully supports the PC platform for these freebies and upgrades, while the 360 gets second class treatment and the PS3 gets the finger. Bethesda does a better job (not perfect) of treating all three platforms equally, with the downside being that none of the platforms get free upgrades. So, in answer to your question "How come valve can update TF2 over and over again and do it for free?" The answer is: idiots who buy the PS3 or 360 version of a Valve game pay for our free PC upgrades. Like this schmuck. Send him a thank you note. |
The episodes I look at as entirely different games, combine all 3 and you basically get half life 3, if they follow the pricing model of 20 - 15 - 15 you basically are getting a new game for $50. Its the amount of content you get in an expansion and how "complete" the first game at release was. Shivering Isles was an expansion pack, a fairly large one you could *buy* in retail, same with the episodes. DLC tends to be too small to sell to sell in a retail store and other times developers have tried to buck the trend and offer it for free, such as TF2's console content and the gears of war map packs, which Epic did want to give away, but they caved into MS almost immediately. The recent valve article didn't mention anything about TF2 so I don't know who caved in to who. Giving away things for free can also have a nice payoff in intangible goodwill with your end users.  Sig by Joel |
