That power supply should do you fine, though I personally dislike using non-namebrand stuff when it comes to PSUs.

Vandam, this is not much different that my quote that you flaunt about in your sig, which was also about my psu (950w).

If I had the money I'd get a namebrand, but all the name brand stuff is over 200 dollars. I'll probably do that with my next (fully) custom build..motha fuckin' Dell....and I sure as hell won't use BTX...motha' fuckin' Dell.

Also, I enjoyed the thread derailment. Quite entertaining...motha fuckin' Dell..

I have this in my desktop. It's powering an 8800GT and a 65W Core 2 duo, and hasn't given me any problems since I bought it last year. Should be plenty for you as well.

I have that PSU as well. It's quiet as sin, and I've had no problems while owning it for that last 3 months

i've got the 850w version and it makes the fuckign annoying buzzing noise that is in direct relation to the amount of FPS i have in game.
i RMA'd one for that reason and the second one i got did the same thing

its not a bug , its a feature

This one is cheaper than yours after rebates, and at least manufactured by a name brand. :-\

edit: oh, but it's not BTX. :-(

That should be enough.

My 250 watt could power my computer and 8400 gs.

Go for  it.

you're an idiot. 8400 GS != 8800 GT. (If you made that comment before Cbreeze ammended his PSU's specs, sorry for calling you an idiot Smile )

While I'm not going to out and out say your system won't run, with a 280W PSU, you're pushing it, especially if it's some random rinky-dink PSU instead of something decent. While PSU's for GPU's exist, they're expensive and generally overpowered for what you would need. I would suggest just saving up a bit and getting a >500W PSU to save yourself the trouble, as you run the risk of damaging parts if you try to run a system underpowered.

For reference, the max power consumption of an 8800GT is 105W, nvidia suggests a minimum power supply of 400W.

I know what my wattage was.

My 250 watt psu powered my 300 watt card and the rest of my system, that's what I was trying to point out.
[/quote]

What!? 8400GS is not a 300W card. wtf gave you that idea?

edit: Fuck, a GTX280 isn't even a 300W card. Idiot.

IIRC, wasn't BTX a design to alleviate the cooling issues Dell had, but advertised as the NEXT BIG THING, all the while being yet another way to make shit even more proprietary?

seriously?

Is the 8400 GS really not a 300 WATT?

But don't even bother googling it, it's useless.  :-\

But every site I come across says it should have about 300 watts worth of power.

Screw it, I don't care.

I'll clarify: you're probably thinking recommended power for the total system. Yea, an 8400GS recommends about 300W for the total system (including CPU, ram, hdd, etc), but the card itself doesn't use more than *maybe* 50W or so. An 8800GT like cbreeze's uses a lot more power, nvidia recommends 400W or so for the entire system. So his 280W PSU won't cut it.

Now I am REALLY fucking pissed. This PSU doesn't fit. It seems Dell wanted to close the fucking walls on every component of this system. They built a special fucking PSU to fit in this motherfucker so I can't get this PSU to fit. I might have to mount it on TOP of the damn tower. And I've already ordered the proc. MOOOOTHER FUUUUCCCKKKIN DEEEEELLLL GOD DAAAAMNIT I HATTTTEE YOUUUU
