I just saw a preview where a critic said it was Oscar Worthy!  And a real one like hollywood or variety.  Not one of those guys they find off the street.

Uggggg, i love his comics but i can't stand his books.  American Gods and Neverwhere were both kinda mediocre.

If this movie is good, it would be his first, after mirror mask and Beowulf. Granted i hear that the mirror mask book/comic was good.

Well Stardust was fairly good.  Mirror Mask and Beowulf he wrote which can be tricky for writers switching between mediums.  But he is supposed to be doing a Death movie so he best get his shit together.  My expectations will be high.

Anyways I think movies that are based on his work are more successful and this time its completely adapted by the Nightmare Before Christmas dude.  Also Im still holding out for some good Terry Pratchett adaptations.  Sky-One doesn't count.  Those are good considering but still pretty damn amateurish.

PS I agree with you on American Gods, I just couldn't get into it as much.  But Neverwhere was the shit.  I have the original BBC series my wife gave me for some holiday.

2nd that... I loved neverwhere. i tried a few others including american gods and had areally tough time getting them going.  He is quite the author tho. I'm pumped

Fuck yeah. I'd recommend you buy Sandman in the Absolute anthologies, but they're expensive as hell, so go find your favorite seedy website and get them.

Coraline is a great book from an author who has won the Hugo, Nebula, Bram Stoker, and Newbery Awards. And Henry Selick is a godlike director.

And I LOVED American Gods...

I was listening to a review and they credited Henry Selick as the writer with no mention of Neil Gaiman.  I was a bit pissed.

Henry Selick was the sole writer of the script, Wybie Lovat was his invention and so were a number of setpieces in the finished script. But the book was all Neil, yeah. For a rockstar of the literary world, Gaiman doesn't get a lot of props.

Finally got around to seeing this. It was great. Pixar might actually have some competition next time the Oscars roll around.

Yeah, saw this on V-day.

-The dad, when Coraline comes into his study the second time, is probably one of the creepiest moments in cinema.
-The 3D is a high point of the film if your eyes can keep up with it.
-It kind of meanders, though, and the pace only gets exciting in the span of about fifteen minutes at the end.
