Yes, there are a lot of problems with the scientific validity of the drug chart. Beyond the ones cited by Crow and seconded by CDUCK, the X-axis is missing sedatives/downers (benzos, barbs), stimulants/uppers (Ritalin, amphetamines), crack, and inhalants (whippets, paint fumes, etc), and the table below (individual bars) is missing lethality of overdose (how likely is an overdose to kill you), ease of overdose (how is fine is the line between getting "high" and OD), psychological dependence (where THC would score MUCH HIGHER than depicted), and mortality (how likely is prolong use of the substance going to kill you. For example, the link between prolonged cigarette use and lung cancer, COPD, emphysema, etc. is pretty well established).

However, adding the above information would not change the basic message conveyed by the image, which is: by any objective means, THC is not any more dangerous, and in some areas arguably less dangerous to public health than the legalized substances of alcohol, tobacco, and caffeine. Indeed, tobacco has one of the highest mortality rates and alcohol has one of the most lethal withdrawal symptoms of any drugs (inclusive of crack/cocaine/heroine, which tend to kill on the increased dependence/overdose end of things).

Where does THC score higher than most other substances: probably in psychological/behavioral addiction. Is it any more psychologically or behaviorally addictive than an MMORPG or FPS? While there is no hard research to support any conclusions, I would not wager that hardcore WoW-addicts are any better off in life than hardcore marijuana users.

And I am not even going to bring porn addicts or nymphos into this discussion.

I've known an incredible pot head who also played way too much wow.  When push came to shove, he tried to sell his wow account for drug money.

And my cellphone is fine now, I've successfully finagled it back to health.

I counter this graph, with my own data that i have collected.  Obviously, you can see that Pot is clearly the worst drug to take if you want to feel like you're a cool guy.  It is second only to Heroin, which i suspect would make me feel like a complete douche.

And they say pot isn't addictive. Giving up one's social life to get his fix?! REEDICULOUS!

How cool you look whilst snorting blow is location dependent though.  Snorting it off a glass coffee table is fairly run of the mill and probably makes you look kinda funny.  Snorting it from between Michelle Trachtenberg's tits, however, probably breaks the cool gauge.

I knew someone with similar habits, only choose to sell drugs to support WoW. At least that option would provide longer-term income. Mind you he only ate Kraft Dinner and can of tuna; as I recall, he developed scurvy.

Unlike... say... giving up your social life for a game... something a lot of people do.

I've smoked a lot of pot in my life, hell living in amsterdam that was pretty easy... You know what? My social life didn't suffer at all and neither did my health, professional life or love life. I quit it because it had been fun but it was time to move on.

I think the biggest problems from pot usage come from it being illegal. The people that let themselves pig out because of it would have found a way to pig out anyway. For every 'bad drugs story' you see on TV or hear there are a _lot_ of people who are able to do some while still having a normal life when they don't use it.

Education about drugs (and I mean good education not just saying they are bad) will save more people than just throwing everybody who uses it in jail...

reading comprehension ftl to the both of you (double fail to ain for either taking my crack about WoWers having a social life seriously or using it as an excuse to pull out the soapbox). As far as I can tell, you're preaching to the choir. Nobody here said pot is a terrible thing, or even bad.

The only problem I have (and I assume Crow has, most likely for the same reason) is when people fudge data to support their stance on critical issues. You can't just make up numbers, charts, and graphs and throw them up to prove a point. It's irresponsible and unethical, and anyone who does it gets reamed very quickly in their respective field. It's just something scientists tend to be very critical of.

I'll restate something I said a while back despite its utter and complete irrelevance.  Skip this post; I have to vent.

I am anti-smoke everything.  Cigars, cigarettes, cloves, marijuana.  Doesn't matter.  Why?

It transmits.  It broadcasts.  It is the nature of smoke, particulate matter, that infuriates me.

If I enter a public environment where any of these are permissible, I remove myself and I am irritated that I have to do so because of someone's pasttime / habit / etc. polluting everyone's fucking air.  Yes, that's my goddamn air you're fucking with doing that shit.

If I enter a private environment, like someone's home, where any of these are permissible, I quickly remove myself and I am sorry that I will not choose to stay there.

I don't have a chronic breathing problem or one that makes me physiologically intolerant.  My asthma's not an excuse.  I'm psychologically intolerant and will remain so because I demand the air I breath contains no traces of those substances.  House dust, burned gasoline, ragweed pollen, ammonia fumes (okay, maybe not that), fine.  But not those.  Wanna see me look like more of a 'tard than usual?  Put me in a room of smokers and watch me put my shirt over my mouth and nose as I dash for an exit.

I know I'm in the minority, but it's irrelevant.  I will remain an enemy to smoked products until my death.  Get patches, eat brownies, do fuck whatever else.  Can't you fucking find another delivery system than smoke?!?!  Damn it all!

I'm sure there are a lot more.
