Upgrading to RB2 drum kit worth it?

I traded in some games and grabbed Rock Band 2.  I always play drums and have been wondering about upgrading.  The new kit seems both awesome and unnecessary.  I mean the softer pads, force sensitive input, better pedal and wireless all make me want to blow my BB gift cards on it.  But then I think: I already have a drum kit, it's $90, and I have jack for money so I should spend these gift cards wisely.

Anyone have any input?  Also while looking for reviews online I ran into trouble spotting the Ion.  I want it so bad!

You totally could have snagged everything from me.

My lonely rock band 2 kit is sitting where my tv used to be.

some friends of mine just burned money on it even though they already had a set and they say it was definitely worth it. I don't play though, so I can't tell you what I think... Can't you like demo a set at Best Buy or something to see what you think?

Good point, I have to go there anyway to use the gift cards.  I'd buy em off you Ianki but I'm trying to see how far I can get without having to touch my bank account =(

Personally, I absolutely love the RB2 kit over the old one. It's much quieter than the first kit (but still a little loud), and the wireless makes it much easier to store. The pedal is pretty much the same as the first one, except with a metal plate on it. The force sensitivity is pretty cool for fills and such, but it's not going to be really noticeable to most people (except me, because I play RB2 way too much).

Overall, whether or not it's worth the price really depends on what difficulty you play on and how well your RB1 kit is holding up. My RB1 kit worked great compared to horror stories I've heard on Scorehero forums, but I still had to tape down the red and green pads to get them to register faster rolls, and even then it wasn't always foolproof. The day I got my RB2 kit, I was absolutely stunned at how many fills I was hitting. It'll register much softer hits than my first kit ever would and much faster rolls. However, for people playing on Easy and Medium (and probably Hard), I don't think it would make any difference.

For me, it was absolutely worth every penny (though I found it online for only $68 with free shipping).

I find that the RB2 kit just feels much more sturdy than the RB1 kit.  And yes, the wireless is quite nice.

I Hate the wireless. All the batteries thing drives me crazy, that's why all my controllers have cords. Also with a nice cable you can wrap them so it looks nice

I've played on both, and personally I don't feel like the upgrade is worth the money if you have something/will have something better to spend it on. They do have a nicer feel to them, but not 90$ worth of nicer feel. I've also never had a problem with fast rolls registering like K2 was speaking about, and I've played all the RB1 songs and a majority of the RB2 songs on expert.

I think I'm going to upgrade just because after playing it last night I remembered about the red pad driving me absolutely freaking crazy.  I keep missing notes there and usually I know when I miss notes but notes I swear I get I miss.  Then I was doing double hits of red and another pad at the same time and missing the red notes.  Not every time, but sort of like when your smoke alarm starts going out of batteries.  Just often and irregular enough you don't know if it's not working right or you are going crazy.

Agreed. I wish they sold a wired version so I wouldn't have to keep changing out batteries.

It depends on what model of RB1 kit you have. You probably have an EL, which can pick up fast rolls, but something about the wiring will make them occasionally miss a note for no reason. That's the model my roommate has, and it'd get really aggravating when I was trying to FC a song. I had a QM, and I had to tape down the pads to get fast rolls, but I much preferred that to randomly missing notes and not being able to do anything about it.

lolidunno, I have the kit from the first run, which is supposedly the one everyone has issues with breaking/not picking up/etc. Guess I got lucky.

I got mine midnight of launch day, and considering the problems I've heard other people have, I'm glad all I needed was some tape.

Well, if your current set is giving you issues and you were probably going to replace it anyways, then why not. Personally I just paid $20 for the pads that make my RB1 drums quieter, and am quite happy about it. Smile

if you have the first set, and it still works, don't buy the second

if you have the first set, and it broke and doesn't work at all, buy the second
