Jack of Fables keeps getting better. Scared to read more DMZ because it can be depressing as shit, but it's a great read. Mr. Grey would love it.
Also started reading the new House of Mysteries. It's really good but they had the most fucked up disturbing short story in the beginning about some chick that marries a fly, gets boned by said fly, bursts open with maggots and eaten and then blames herself for being a bad mother. Seriously still messing with my appetite. |

Managed to miss this thread at its inception.
I'm all for the Sandman. I read all ten series' in as many sittings. He's right about the beginning, it's slow as hell and Gaiman takes a while to find the pulse of the story. Once he gets it, though... whoo, boy. It takes off. The entire Kindly Ones story arc will leave you in disbelief. Also, naturally, Watchmen. So many of you have read it either before or after, but generally because of the movie, that the recommendation is a raindrop in a well, but I'll put my weight behind it anyways. |

Transmetropolitan
Personally found it to be a hilarious and gritty way to explain big business' effect on the fabric of society in the future, and how much more ugly the world can become because of corruption. Marvel Zombies Yes yes I know you said to steer clear of the Superhero stuff but it's got zombie spider-man for fucks sakes. Also featuring a crossover with Ash Williams from Evil Dead. <3 Speaking of. Anything from Army of Darkness / Evil Dead Including: Army of Darkness vs. Reanimator Marvel Zombies vs Army of Darkness From the Ashes Shop Till You Drop Dead Ashes 2 Ashes Freddy vs. Jason vs. Ash Long Road Home Darkman vs. Army of Darkness Ruins Ok I give up, here's more super hero crap. Ruins shows the marvel universe if everything had gone wrong, superheroes are hated and killed, freak experiments that create heroes (Like The Hulk and Spiderman) deform and kill them, and well everything's gone to hell. It's told from the perspective of a reporter, trying to finish a book about the tragedies of the world before he dies of Cancer. Very nice read, only 2 issues too. Can we include Manga as well in this?
As for American comics, I just downloaded a torrent of all of Alan Moore's work (will buy real copies them as soon as I get more cash) apart from the classics like Watchmen and V for Vendetta is stuff like Batman: The Killing Joker, which is a pretty great portrayal of The Joker. |

[/quote] Preacher was Garth Ennis, but yeah, Warren Ellis is fucked up. He did the first run of the authority before Mark Miller destroyed it, Transmetropolitan, Planetary, and maybe my favorite graphic novel WE3 a story about 3 animals who have been made into cyborg killing machines that can talk by the government. It's a lot freakier and heartwarming then it sounds. Ruins was the fucked up reimagining of the "Marvels" mini-series that Kurt Busiek and Alex Ross did in the 90's, but with everything going wrong. |
