Understanding each other, a WoW -> TF2 primer

I'm not going to lie I'm doing this because it is slow at work until the mail comes.  So after a great deal of research, and to welcome the new people, here is a primer on understanding TF2.  Feel free to add the other side as I have never played WoW so I am going off my research here.

Medic = Priest

Well a very simple version of a priest.  The medic is in charge of healing his party.  He can also choose one of two weapons to cast a sort of spell that either makes a team member invincible for a short time or give him a huge damage buff for a short time.  Besides this weapon he gets two others that also have benefits.  One is a knife that would probably be called soulstealer or something in WoW.  It lets him steal what would be called mana to cast his spells.  The other would be called flesheater or something and shoots darts that steal life.  All around a pretty important class.

Engineers = Warlocks

An engineers main function is to build structures which are basically pets.  They get an attack pet (sentry gun) a support pet (ammo dispenser that also heals) and a teleport pet (does what it says on the tin).  Outside this they are more or less useless so maybe not entirely like a warlock.  But it can be fun hitting people over the head with a wrench.

Spies = Rogues

Spies get the special ability to disguise themselves as any class of enemy and run around causing all kinds of mischief.  They also get a sort of spell that makes them invisible for a short time, but this spell fades a bit if hit by enemy fire or by bumping into enemies.  He gets a knife that allows him to insta-kill any enemy stabbed in the back making him an effective assassin.  In addition to this they get an item that lets them disable/kill an engineers "pets."

Heavy = Warrior

These large guys are the tank class of TF2.  They have the most health of any classes and can withstand a lot of damage.  They also are great against large groups of enemies.  They have a weapon that can cast slow on those hit for a cost of damage.  They also carry health vials in the form of delicious sandwiches.  Unfortunately they do not share these with their team because they are greedy with food.  This class also specializes in unarmed combat and can take a brief damage buff by slaying enemies with their large mitts.

Demoman = Mage

These guys deal in fire and explosive damage.  They can lay traps or just hurl little balls of firey explosive death.  These balls also bounce, does WoW have fire spells that bounce?  Well if bouncing is what you are missing in life these are the guys for you.  They are also masters of timing, able to trigger their explosive spells at just the right time.

Sniper = Hunter

This one is pretty easy.  These guys get a big rifle to take out your teammates enemies before they get a chance to do any damage.  Maybe not as cool as the soulshredder bow of mourning but still not too shabby.  Beyond this they really serve no function other than to annoy the shit out of you if they are on the other team.  Does WoW have insta-kill ranged characters?  If they don't I might actually switch over and play with you.

Scout = Rogue Pt. Duex

OK I'm using Rogue again, sue me.  Scouts live up to their name racing ahead and reporting back to their team.  They rely on speed and being sly little buggers.  They often attack from behind and will run away if seen by enemies only to run around and pop out somewhere else to surprise them.  The get a stun "spell" that will let them get away if cornered or allow them to get in a cheap kill.  Sound familiar?

Soldier = Paladin

He doesn't get heal or anything like that but he is the "good enough" tank class.  He's also pretty straight forward in his attacks and overall a standup kind of guy.  He mostly launches magic missiles or whatever you call them in WoW (ok I might have been stretching it a bit when I said extensive research).  Other than that he mostly yells at his party to help boost their morale.  Oh he can get a huge boost to his jump for a damage penalty, although I doubt that ever comes up in WoW.

Pyro = Magelock

I know that's not a real class but pyros are basically as much fire and fury as you can condense into a small weird looking man.  He has a short range fire spell that's super effective and has a lasting burn effect that deals damage over time.  He also has a pretty wimpy fireball that's best used to aggro the other team.  And he gets an incredible ax that can get a huge damage buff against burning enemies or be used as an air guitar in a pinch.

Well that's pretty much it.  Welcome to our group and we hope to see you guys come out if not for TF2 then for some of the other fun games we like to host.  And if you want to suggest something fun you haven't played for a while we are always up to resurrect old games.  You may see some of us trying out WoW as well so be gentle.
