Second-hand smoke is only harmful if you are repeatedly exposed to it in a closed environment. People smoking outside on campus harm no one. (Unless they throw their butts on the ground, but that is a different issue.) |

Smoking ANYWHERE, ANYTIME, ANYHOW, is bad for you. Even if it's not an immediate effect, I could guarantee you that it'll have a long term effect. Also there's no such thing as a cool factor, just the douchebag meter. |

This risk is significantly lower in nonsmokers: 1.3% in men and 1.4% in women."

I posted it above, but the percentage of male smokers who develop lung cancer is 17%, which is higher than the 1% for non-smokers, but it's nowhere near 100%. |
So?  Drinking alcohol has been proven to be fatal yet that doesn't stop most people does it? It's funny how people categorize smoking as something severe yet they will brag about the massive amounts of alcohol they drink over the course of a weekend.  If people want to go on their high horse about not smoking to be "healthy" then maybe those people should worry about their other unhealthy vices. |

Also, who the fuck cares if he smokes. Â Jesus. Â I like smoking, i don't necessarily want to quit smoking. Â Hell, i even like the fact that my 2.50 in taxes per pack or whatever goes towards health care costs. Â Still, the people who get angry and at the mere mention of cigarettes should just shut the hell up and let me enjoy my vice. Â I don't stab hookers, i don't snort cocaine off the millions i made short selling stocks. Â In the grand scheme of things, alchohol does more to harm society than cigarettes so i really wish society would stop making me feel like the asshole because i smoke outside. |
While I'll wholeheartedly agree about the foolhardiness and hypocricy of the binge drinker, the number of drinks it takes to start having adverse health effects and cigarettes you smoke is pretty different. I don't mean to be the moral crusader though, anyone in societies private cigarette or drug use, is fine by me, provided I don't have to pay for their/suffer myself from the adverse effects (now that I reread that though, I kind of think that might makes me a dick >.<) |

I just wish that the corporate scumbags who sell this stuff will get a clue. |

Don't worry, I knew where you were coming from. And to Karth: Can you honestly tell me you abstain from everything that is unhealthy to you? Fast food? You know those assholes who run the fast food corporations pretty much torture the animals they kill before they process them into "food". Does that bother you? Note: Tragic Hero is not an advocate for PETA. Just trying to make a point. Edit: Forgot to make my point. My point being that most corporate heads are evil. Do you think Nike closed down their sweat shops because they felt guilty? No, it was because they didn't want to lose business. You know if (hypothetically) we didn't care about children losing fingers making our shoes for a nickel an hour Nike would still be running their sweat shops. So to label tobacco big wigs as "evil" when they are trying to make money like any other corporation isn't really fair.
