Also, technically you don't need an international credit card to buy this if you make a japanese psn account. buy a psn card. I did it for some things that came out on Japanese XBL only, so I figured it'd work the same on a PS3.

I personally did not enjoy 12 at all.  I got about 20 hours into it, and found it utterly boring.  The characters were uninteresting, the plot was uninspired, and I couldn't stand the gambit system.  If you are going to make players create "logic trees" for what actions to take, make sure you provide them with the tools to do so right from the start.  Having to find or buy combat commands is ridiculous. 

Anyway, without going off into too much of an analysis of its failings, I'd recommend skipping it unless you are a die-hard FFer.

The gambit system is worth a quick complaint... then never using. It's basically the game's "easy mode".

The story is a hell of a lot better than that of 7, 10, 10-2, and 11 if you count it. The fact that it's actually based on FANTASY again is a big turn off to people, and it's understandable being that they're not used to it in the other Playstation FF games other than 9.
