Also, I'd like to move to California within the next four or five years and I don't know if you can transfer like that or not. |

My friend had two people die during his boot camp. One had a heart attack while running and the other hung himself. That kinda discouraged me.
They'll still ship you overseas, you want something "safer" do the coast guard or the navy
Will they? I wouldn't mind being deployed for natural disasters and stuff like that in the US, or if there was an invasion, but I couldn't participate in Iraq or shit like that. I thought the National Guard was supposed to, you know, guard the nation. Not so much a safety thing (although I obviously don't want to die), but I'm against foreign wars. And I'm deathly scared of water, so the coast guard probably isn't such a good idea. |

Google the Total Force Policy
[tt]In 1970, while America was still fighting the Vietnam War, plans were made to reduce military expenditures. President Nixon wanted to streamline the nationâs military establishment, while maintaining the United Statesâ worldwide commitments. He also wanted to defuse war protests by ending the Selective Service draft...the presidentâs requested reductions of defense expenditures would require reductions in all facets of the active forces and increased reliance on the combat and combat support units of the National Guard and the Reserves. ... The Total Force Concept brought a new level of support for the National Guard and Reserves. General Creighton Abrams, United States Army Chief of Staff, reorganized the "Total Army" so that the Regular Army could not conduct an extended campaign without mobilizing the Guard and Reserves, thus gaining the involvement and, hopefully, the support of small-town America. " http://www.iowanationalguard.com/Museum/...Policy.htm[/tt] Quote: With so much of the Air Forceâs combat power placed in the reserve components, the nation simply could not have gone to war the way it didâon short notice and with unexpected demandsâwithout the Guard and Reserve contributions...... Under Bush/Rumsfeld, National Guard services was all of the danger, twice the risk of deployment, with none of the health and retirement benefits. No offense, fyre, but I don't think you'd make it past basic training, let alone a heavy deployment rotation. |

Yeah...I've been reading about that. I'm pretty sure I could make it through basic if I spent a month or two getting in shape before though. I'm tougher than I seem. (Which really isn't hard tbh)
I dunno. I gotta do more research. On the plus side, if I did go in, I could probably have my choice of jobs since I got a super good score on the ASVAB in high school. |

so fyre's joining the army now because he thinks it's cool? my friend did that and got kicked out at the end of basic
also basic training will not beat you into shape, it's not a dedicated workout regimen based around your body type and a diet based around your body type

I don't think the military is especially cool anyway. Not really talking about physical strength as much as mental. |
