8 hours of audio would be a couple gigabytes-worth of data wouldn't it?

8 hours of a single track of audio recorded at red book standard (44.1Khz, 16bit) would be a little over 2422 MB. That said, I personally would use WaveLab. If you're looking to do this for cheap though (free), you could look into something like Audacity.

Pretty sure it would use the hard drive as a scratch disk.

Don't you have insurance? this is something that can be solved quite easily withing one or two clinical visits.  Besides, if you have had your tonsils taken out it's quite rare for someone who isn't a fatty.

Asking a doctor is going to be so much easier. Even if you do discover something in your recordings, to do anything about it you are likely going to have to visit your doctor anyway, and then endure testing all over again so that they can be sure.

If you couldn't find an adequate software solution I was going to say I can lend you my iTalk Pro if you have an iPod (video/classic or nano), but you can only get like 1-3 hours of recording time out of it before the battery goes dead, and you can't plug into a recharger at the same time because it uses the dock connector :/

That said, I concur with the above. If you think you have it, and you have insurance, you'd probably be better off going to a doctor and at least talking about it - if it turns out your concerns are valid you can go on from there as far as testing is concerned, and if you're being paranoid you're only out the cost of an office visit with the upside of some peace of mind.

you could always see if any universities or the like in your area are doing any kind of sleep research and if they would tell you if you had sleep apnea. tho that might also involve sleeping in a strange place every night for months on end and being awoken every couple hours. :\

Just because a person snores does not mean a person has sleep apnea.

So, even if you record yourself snoring like a sumbitch, you still won't know whether you suffer from sleep apnea.

A sleep study, in addition to assessing the level of snoring that a person has, also evaluates brain wave/REM functioning and oxygen level in the blood and periodic limb movement while sleeping (and other stuff).  What makes sleep apnea is that the snoring is due to reduced airway flow which leads to lower oxygen level in the blood which makes you have "mini-wake-ups"  in the night to get more oxygen (wake after sleep onset, usually so brief you don't remember them) which leads to fatigue in the morning.

If you are tired when you wake up after a full night's sleep, that is a problem. You ought to see a doctor.

If you're actually serious, Grey.  Hit me with your symptoms besides snoring.  Are you aware of waking up frequently at night, you tired all the time, you have frequent morning headaches, is your sleep schedule consistent?  Any other symptoms that may/may not be unrelated?  And yeah, you might be able to find a research study doing sleep studies.  I'd call up the nearest Uni and try to connect with their medical research division and see if they are doing anything or are aware of other such research programs.

<+Karrde> welp, time to learn some basic patterning skills

<@Negate> there is a simple pattern
<+Karrde> I changed my mind.  Gonna cosplay as a gay demon from hell and get negate raped instead XD
<+Caffeine`work> Karrde: Gay demon? Why would you need to cosplay just go as yourself
<+FlyingMongoose> Caffeine`work: Karrde would actually have to tone it down some.
