I've had a bottle of Czech Absinth Strong for a few years now.
I can only drink it over ice.

Not too bad for a 120 proof liquor.

yeah, a lot of people caramelize sugar for the drink.

Pour a little sugar into a spoon and a splash of the absenth, and then light it on fire.  The absenth should burn just long egnough to caramelize the sugar for a good mixture for the drink.

I've heard this makes it taste like ass and is mostly to make yourself look cool.  The traditional way I've heard to drink is is the pour some in a glass, rest this special absinthe spoon on top with a sugar cube, then pour incredibly cold water over the sugar.  Then drink it down.

Czech or Bohemian method is at the bottom and the one you are describing.

Though frowned upon by some absinthe aficionados, this untraditional method has become popular in recent years. Absinthe with a high alcohol content will ignite more readily, but it is certainly not recommended that high-quality absinthe be set aflame.

The sites I was at trying to find out where I can buy absinthe frowned on lighting it on fire.  But I guess it does make you look cool......

I have a barely drank bottle of Jägermeister next to my Absinthe. The Absinthe is far more popular.

It has just come to my attention that Caesars and Clamato are unknown and unavailable outside of Canada.
Same goes for Rye (Hint, Crown Royal is likely the only Rye that is known outside the North).

Untrue, there are many rye whiskeys in the states.  Jim Bean has a rye, but i much prefer the Iowa grown Templeton Rye, which as of today is still the best whiskey i have ever consumed, and i have had many brands of whiskey.

Ah, good to hear that there are some options.
Any time I have tried to order a rye and coke when I am across the boarder is greeted with a 'wtf?' and a prompt request for my ID.

A fine drinking establishment I visited yesterday had Lucid prominently displayed, so I had a glass. I think it has a bit more of the green fairy than Absente. And I don't care if this is a placebo effect, just as long as the supremely calm and mellow buzz continues to appear after the first glass. 

I feel so hip, maybe I should be listening to vinyl.

This is what I have been looking for.  They had some chemical engineer scientist guy help them to create a version of absinthe as original to the.....errr...original as possible.  Even tracked down antique bottles to get samples and stuff.

'Tis placebo. Don't know about Lucid... I think that stuff's the genuine article, but Absente, she's a tricksome knave. Made from a driffent type of wormood than your traditional absinthe, the American rather than European variety which does not, repeat, does not contain the hallucinogen.

On a related note, I find that Seagram's is a bit kinder on the tongue that Gordon's or Beefeater's, but the sting and head-rolling strength after three glasses... well, let's say I should have taken those the other way around.
