When you're comparing a civilised and uncivilised culture this makes sense, but when you're comparing say, civilized Europe and civilized Africa...

Prehistoric Africa and Asia would, I guess you would say, be higher-risk than Europe and South America.

cooking food actually makes it lose nutrients(some ways more than others), but we cook most meat because it gets rid of bacteria that our body can't. also for the taste.

Pretty sure it runs much deeper than that. Maybe in the beginning that's why people adopted animal companions, but (esp. with dogs) the benefits to owning a pet are huge (there are so many positive things that can come from being socially content, one example being the fact that pet owners have exhibited much swifter rehabilitation rates in hospitals)
