Do you get the feeling that people verbally shoot at Obama simply for his name being uttered in a newspiece?

I dunno. After the whole Nobel Prize debacle, I feel like I've seen more mud flung at Obama for EARNING the award and not at the association for giving it. I've seen a good share for the latter, but the former stands out mostly for existing in a fairly tangible amount.

I read a Krugman piece that I absolutely agree with and have noticed it being more and more true as time goes on. And it's basically summed up as the Republican party no longer recognizes the Democratic party's right to govern.

The breakdown to me has always been like this. There is a great deal of solidarity in the Republican party, always has been. That is their culture and that is how they are so successful. The Democratic party is a mish-mash of liberals, moderates and Republicans that don't want to be a part of the machine. The Republicans have some good genuine ideas and they have every right to be a part of politics, but because of their solidarity and Machiavellian nature every couple years they role out another one of these BS strategies and no one in their party calls them out on it so it gets legs and it runs. If you remember before when they were in power they would say things like "the real americans", "unpatriotic", "you don't undermine the president in wartime", etc. Now that they are out their tactic is to refuse to recognize the legitimacy of democratic power.

In this worldview anything bad for democrats, even if it is bad for the country short term, is actually good for the country because it gets them out of power. And they need to be out of power because they will just eff things up if left to their devices. They think that Democratic is the product of an addled mind and that these people are dangerous in office. So anything bad for them is good and anything good for them is bad and the sooner the country reverts to Republican rule the safer we will be. It sounds silly but I see it even in my dad and my co-worker, both of which I like tremendously but seem to think that any Democratic notions I have is just a temporary phase and I will get over it as soon as I know better. They even explain away the trend that the more educated people are the more likely they are to be a Democrat by saying that academics don't live in the real world and that teachers brainwash their students into being a Democrat.

I think the best thing about this is at least it's not really racist. I think anyone with a D next to their name in the whitehouse would be subject to this. Democrats just don't have the right to govern in this country and any means necessary to remove them is OK.

From my point of view (from out of the US), I think that Obama didn't deserve that Nobel prize. However, I do see why he would have gotten it: he is trying hard to bring piece in the middle east, but I guess that they gave him the Nobel prize to urge him to bring peace out there, and probably even help him.

Now he can go out there and tell them to stop stupid religious wars, and not as someone from another country that thinks he knows better, but as an actual Nobel prize winner.

And Savage, that kind of politics isn't only happening in the US. As a matter of fact, it's pretty much the same here, in Canada. Parties are voting against law bills, and not because they are against the ideas, but because they are against the leading party.
Well that is only true for 2 parties out of 4, at least...

My job makes me misrible enough without checking in on political events. So I stick to videogames and things that make me happy, rather then imposing even more despair upon my self in my spare time.

In short: I really don't give a fuck.

I'm reading something that explains this and I am posting it to the books thread, it's a free PDF online and it is extremely interesting.
