Reccomend me a good headset

Need new headset, cheap ones keep lasting less than a year.  Reccomend something nice that can take a beating.

Siberia Icemats are good for this.

The phones still work great after a year and a half... though the bungee cord strap on mine got snapped loose but it's nothing to worry about if you don't have a little sister around and some duct tape to fix said problem.

I hear people saying this, but what's the advantage?  Would seem to be annoying to have to lean over to talk, or is it usually a clip on type?

[/quote]If you get a decent stereo array mic, its mounted to your monitor so you don't have to lean or speak up or anything. Both caff & i used to use those, I think he might still.

I use a stereo mic that came with my motherboard, sits easily on my monitor and works very very well.

Headsets can be finicky with some program and get in the way of me drinking  :

It's much easier to find nice affordable headphones than to find a nice, affordable headset (the whole "gamer gear" tends to bump the price or quality because it has fatal1tys name omg).

Not only that, you can take nice headphones anywhere in public to use them (practicing a musical instrument, listening to an ipod, doing work on your laptop) without looking like a tool with a headset.

my mic is a $5 one that sits on my desktop, I don't have to sit very close for it to pick up though, so no leaning over involved. and yea, the monitor mounted ones are good too.

While I agree that I usually shy away from 'gamer gear', I also wouldn't endorse something unless I owned it and thought it was legitimately a good product, and worth the price charged. Also, the mic is removable so you can use them as muffs wherever if you so choose, but anyone with muffs on in public is going to look like a tool, headset or no.

Oh, and icemats come with a nice clip-on-shirt microphone.

Some people hate it but I don't see what the big deal is, it's better than having a big fucking thing infront of your mouth at all times.

i fucking hated my icemat's microphone, totally useless. a "big fucking thing" in front of my mouth that works well is way better than something that was completely useless, especially since i usually don't wear a shirt while playing computer games. headphones were alright though. i just bought a desktop mic for it.

I don't think taking the mic of your headset can change those two.
