From my experience, I don't think you should ever use your credit card to get Gold. I got it for 12 months and wanted to cancel (since they don't tell beforehand that it automatically renews), and even though you can buy a Gold subscription with just three button presses directly from your Xbox, it takes half an hour on the phone to cancel it. If I ever get it again I'm just going to buy one of those 12-month cards instead. If you use one of those your account reverts back to Silver when you run out, and you can usually find them for $5-10 off.

Um...I canceled mine in 2 minutes online, I got an auto-email notification "Your live sub will be renewed in 60 days" Oh, I don't use it, click, cancel, done

How long ago was this? Because my notification e-mail didn't have any cancellation link on it, and after looking all over their website the only way they ever listed that you could cancel was to call them.

And a friend had his house catch on fire. No one was injured, and only the living room was destroyed, but he lost a bunch of stuff.
