I don't need itunes on this computer and I hate windows media player. I've heard that winamp jumped the shark. Any good recommendations? Looking for lightweight with easy library organization.

eww gross

mpc, vlc, and mplayer are all good players (I prefer mplayer personally but it's not the most user-friendly, though I think it's got more/better features than vlc)

OK I got VLC but its kind of being a dick, how do you perform bulk actions? Also how do you get rid of stuff from your library?

Winamp, only because I'm oldschool and it's super lightweight.

14614 songs loaded right now and it's using under 50mb of ram.

winamp 2.95 forever.

Actually, I do use 5.56 on my newest computer, but for all others I stick with 2.95. I like knowing where the buttons are.

foobar2000. It's infinitely customizable, but it does take a little work to get it set up well. Simple, clean, and really lightweight (~20MB of memory). I highly recommend using the Columns UI plugin; it makes organizing the layout much easier.

VLC doesn't have library management
it simply is a media player

I didn’t see this Surf, sorry. I use VLC for a general media player, because when I would grab pirate video during my college days I could throw nearly any file type at it and it would play. Other players would say “this file type isn’t supported” and I would have to find some kind of patch to fix it. Also, VLC is incredibly lightweight as a program.

Personally, I don’t torrent any music at all, so I prefer to go to sites with relativity little costs associated with online music streaming. I use Pandora some, but I am really enjoying lala.com recently for the ability to sort of build your own Pandora station with much more song selection. It does cost money however, but even $20 goes a really long way for online streaming. I write reviews on there, create playlists, etc. Pitchfork is fairly active on Lala, and I am able to discover a decent amount of music that way as well.

That’s a long way of saying if library management is more important (as in you have many gigs of music already on your computer) I think some of the other suggestions in this thread would probably serve you better then VLC.

<@Negate> there is a simple pattern
<+Karrde> I changed my mind.  Gonna cosplay as a gay demon from hell and get negate raped instead XD
<+Caffeine`work> Karrde: Gay demon? Why would you need to cosplay just go as yourself
<+FlyingMongoose> Caffeine`work: Karrde would actually have to tone it down some.

Foobar2K, it's hella lightweight, and highly customizable if you want it to be. I only use it for my music, while VLC is used for my videos
