A MIDI interface allows note and controller data to be passed from a sequencer to a sound module or vice versa. That would allow you to have a sequence on your computer in ableton or cubase or whatever and transmit it in real time to your keyboard.

i know, i'm just broke and can't afford a sound card right now

this is just to hold me over so i can play around with beats and such

You can get a 1x1 USB MIDI interface for something like $30-40. No need for a soundcard if you can already record through your 1/8th" jack.

actually i figured out that the microkorg xl already has usb midi drivers/type B usb connecter on the unit
now i just have to figure out what i'm going to do with it

sigs need to be text only or something, ffs, tim's sig is funny once or twice, same with turtle and neonie, but GOD DAMNIT they are not even remotely funny the 4th 5th and 6th times
