Not at all, although it would be nice to have a library adjacent to give people access to the books shown in the displays. A library rarely has anything beyond a basic display celebrating a book. What we were talking about was showing the entire lineage of storytelling and creating displays to showcase who was writing and what they were writing about. Show the roots as an oral tradition and how stories were passed on, the different storytelling positions in society and what kind of weight they had. Then showcase theater and the role that had in society. Then show illuminated manuscripts and how books were painstakingly copied and decorated for the rich. Then the invention of movable type and the expansion of literacy rates. How stories clash with religion and government. Book burnings and the bonfire of the vanities which also claimed books. Storytelling has a rich history evolving from presumably cave paintings to present day video games. It would be nice to really show how important storytelling is for human culture. A library is nice for going and picking up a book but we'd like for there to be a place to go and learn about the rich history that went from drawing pictures on a wall to the blockbuster movie opening on any given Friday. To really learn to appreciate how people have told stories to each other throughout the ages.

I don't like how pushy they are with social network advertising at all, they basically just try to breed fans instead of simply having a solid product and standing behind it (like Logitech or Saitek, for example).

i believe Adam Sessler's words were "turn the game off, realize what a sorry sack of shit you are, and kill yourself"

Someone asked them about the service as the Live@PAX X-Play taping, was my favorite panel by far

It's a solid IM program, but it is a tad shady. I used it for bout a year, but there were issues with the creator sending private information to companies without your consent. The skins are pretty meh, and the community isn't very big at all. Personally, if you are looking for a chat client I recommend Pidgin.

[/quote]I quite like Digsby for ease-of-use (smooth auto updates, settings stored in a cloud, etc). However, you have to be careful, because there are several options that default to ON that you'll want to turn OFF: advertising digsby via status messages, and the distributed computing option (aka using your computer and them getting paid for it).

I liked pidgin but getting it set up the way I wanted in Windows was a pain, and it used to crash on me all the time (almost as bad as Trillian, that).

digsby i like simply because i can also bundle email notifications and twitter feed into it. i used it for a long time and i was pretty happy with it, though ive decided universally accessible chatlogs are more useful to me than a bunch of social networking stuff rolled into a single program. if you do decide to use it make sure you uncheck the box for cloud computeing when your comp is idle or whatever it is (sorry too drunk to lkook it up right now)
