Awesome! I just tried joining without logging in (I just clicked on that link) and it didn't connect Sad.  Is it just for people who preordered?

Ack, yeah... just realized this. It's not anything like I had before, it's just a spare box that cloud threw a stripped linux on to. Problem is, he has this dynamic IP address, so that address for the server's gunna change every few days. :\

If anyone has an idea for this....

infinite maps (might need an account that has bought the game to play, sorry)

basically will make it so we never need to switch maps again

will also mean that someone will go as far away as possible to make the map size like 1.21 gigabytes.

I'd buy a box with a terribyte hdd if that meant we could have a brbu city, alpines, and FLOATING ISLANDS all in the same map. ;D

Think about it, if we could build teleporters and had a local and global chat...

:o

THIS POSSIBILITIES ARE ENDLESS!

Do we still have a Minecraft server?

That's a good question...

Another good question is does anyone truly care until Minecraft goes into beta? :-\

hells yeah

but we're gonna have to find a really good server (i think), my fairly small map (probably 700x700 at the moment) is 5 MB, with 5-10 people playing and in their own places its gonna be like 500 MB (which isnt alot TBH)

I'm gunna put some money aside and see if I can get a nice dedicated set up. As far as storage, the vps I had before gave me 16 gigs, so HDD space isn't gunna be an issue. I'm more worried about the 320mb's of ram. It worked well on a 512x512x256 map, but considering how big these are gunna become, I'm not really that sure anymore.

Anyways, notch said he's be getting the beta out here soon. Think it may be before the end of the month. Note: Notch is known for pulling 'anti-valve' times. One example being his day and night system he said he was going to implement. He posted the news in the morning, had a working version that night.
